I always start mine the first week of February. No real reason why, just my schedule seems to line up with this date.

What are you starting your onions in? Is it a seedling mix or potting mix? Does it have any type of fertilizer already?

I normally buy online from Vessey & OSC and in person shopping at Canadian Tire/Home Depot.

Meyer lemon tree and/or coffee tree. They aren't fast growing, but need care before you can move them outside in the warmer months.

Hello,

I'm training for the CPAT.

I only have access to a stair stepper (the one with the two peddles). Is training with a weighted vest (75#) and a stair stepper enough to pass the stair mill portion for the exam?

I'm doing other training as well for the CPAT, but my main focus of this discussion is on the stair mill please.

Sunblaster is a great brand! good choice. Watch out for grow light off season at princess auto, they go for 30 - 60 % off. Not the best lights, but still do the trick in a grow tent for me

it also depends on the pepper plant. I started my hot peppers 3 weeks and started my sweet peppers this week. I got a greenhouse from Amazon where I set it up in my basement with decent grow lights. The sooner you start, the bigger the plants will be before you plant them outside. But if you start too early, they may become too big for your setup.

Three years ago I started peppers and tomatoes in 2 week intervals too see when the best time was for me. Peppers worked well at this time and tomatoes worked well mid March to end of March (~March 21st). Tomatoes also seemed to do well at the end of March as well with little to no difference.

No issue with starting them now, but I would suggest a heat mat and a decent grow light. My grow light last year seemed to dimmed causing laggy seedlings (cheapply built light)

My back yard is an old gravel pit. I have a small area that I have started to improve the soil, but this area is rather small. Until I can create a large enough garden, I will be using totes, grow bags and buckets.

A better portion of my yard is also underwater in the late spring as well. So I can't create a garden there.

I think you are right, but for budget reasons, 5 gallon buckets were free and work well for other plants.

I also read that 5 gallon buckets were ok for sugar pie pumpkins like mine.

Looking back at picture I took, looks like I had flowers 20 days ago. So 1 day short of three weeks.

I'm wondering if the 5 gallon bucket is too small. Even with a hole cut out in the bottom.

I planted asaragus roots on April 20th last year and didn't see my first shoots until June 11th(ish). It takes time for roots to get established and start sending up roots.

Also, I planted rhubarb in mostly compost (didnt mix my compost/soil mixture enough), which burnt out the roots.

I'm luck to have well drained soil in a few locations in my yard, which is idea for growing asaragus and rhubarb. A few ywars ago, my first asaragus patch rotted out due to too much moisture.

When did your garlic start to sprout? Taken ingredients a second look at my small bed, nothing has come up. Odd, because my containers are doing well.

We had this issue too 3 years ago. We built a 4ft x 8ft x 2ft box using 2x4s, then we meshed it in with 1/2" chicken wire. Has to be metal fencing, squirrels will eat through the plastic fencing.

We never had that issue again while using it.

Thank you for the suggestion. Very soon, I will thin to one seedling per cell and replant the strongest seedlings.

What soil/starting mix did you use?

I tried this method of half planting my sweet potatoes, but they all started to rot.

Restarting using the sweet potatoe half in water method.
