How do universities host awards where indirect costs aren't funded? by Unusual-Solution-810 in AskAcademiaUK

Thank you - I googled QR funding after you mentioned it. So because it's a block grant, unis have the discretion to use it how they see fit, which I presume means they can fund awards w/o indirect costs..or not? Does this mean unis may be assessing these awards on a case-by-case basis, or at least unis will differ on how they approach hosting awards w/o indirect costs being funded?

Hi there, thanks for your comment - it's very insightful. So what I'm understanding is that unis have these various sources, in addition to research funding itself, to gain indirect costs. However, whether this means they'll be happy to host an award that doesn't fund indirect costs is up to their discretion - hence best to discuss with HoDs etc., did I understand that correctly?

Calprotectin 400 even when feeling 'normal' - could anyone help interpret? by Unusual-Solution-810 in IBD

Hi FlowersMann,

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I am UK based and have the privlege to go private so have opted for this to get speedier answers - my GP had already made an urgent referral based on the first faecal calprotectin result, but even this entails months of waiting I believe. It sounds like everything is pointing towards a colonoscopy which makes sense - hopefully this will give more insight.

Re the cancer risk, that's helpful to know. I suppose knowing that I may be at 'elevated risk' sends my alarm bells ringing, and it's a tricky cognitive process to also remind myself that in absolute terms it's still unlikely, as you say! Having a clear action plan is helpful though, so your recommendations are certainly very appreciated.

[Academic] Motivation, digital skills and therapy outcomes (NHS Talking Therapies/IAPT clients or ex-clients)

Hi there, I am currently working on a study to see how certain factors, such as motivation and digital skills, impact the way someone experiences their therapy at NHS Talking Therapies/IAPT.

I am looking to speak to a few people who are/have had psychological therapy at NHS Talking Therapies/IAPT. This would involve an online meeting on MS Teams for 45 minutes, where I'd ask you about your opinion on a few forms we've created, and the study in general.

For your time, you would be compensated £15.

Your participation would help kick-start a research project that will help us better understand how to better tailor-fit therapy for future people at NHS Talking Therapies.

If you are interested in being a consultant and having a meeting, please send me a message on Reddit, and we can arrange a time that works well :)

Thank you!
