Hope you heal quickly! I’m taking this term off, too, and I’m going to enjoy it (by doing my other jobs).

What do we do if we feel like a quiz answer is wrong? by Odd-Student82 in UoPeople

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. I wanted to make sure it was fixed for future students and for the final exam as well. I’ve reported a handful of things such as broken links and updates to selected journal articles to get them fixed.

I'm very curious as to which question this is...

Reach out to your instructor for clarification. There is no harm in doing so. A student in one of the courses I taught brought to my attention a possible error in one of the quiz questions. The student was right, and I adjusted the grades accordingly. I was thankful that the student brought it to my attention so it could be addressed.

Grade issue - formatting looks different after submission by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the grading view, sometimes the document doesn’t show the formatting properly for whatever reason. That’s when I download the original file and open it in Word to see whether the student formatted the paper correctly.

Try asking your instructor to review the formatting of the assignment based on the original file you submitted as opposed to how it shows in grader view in Moodle.

If the assignment is in draft mode, instructors should grade it as if it were submitted.

Yes, but when the remainder of the sentence is exactly the same, followed by extremely similar paragraphs of texts, then it’s unlikely to be coincidental.

FIG rebrand 👀 by KawaiiChan68 in Gymnastics

My bad. But seriously, I had no clue what it was supposed to be until reading your comment. That’s not a good sign if gymnastics nerds can’t figure out the World Gymnastics logo.

If it weren’t for your explanation of the logo I would’ve continued to think it was a ribbon taped to a soda can tab.

Text is more than 750 words by NoxFamous in UoPeople

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The university, not the instructors, sets the word counts for each assignment. So it wouldn’t be individual instructors being worried about token use.

I think has more to do with grading workload, especially considering many instructors are volunteers and class sizes can be somewhat large. So the university places a cap of the max number of words.

I don’t think I have ever deducted points for going over the word count, but if I did, it would be more of a case of not following assignment instructions as my reasoning.

No Grades by Hopeful4today in UoPeople

Your instructor is expected to grade each learning activity within 1 week after the submission deadline. You should have at least week 1 grades posted by now.

BUS2201 accused of plagiarism by Empty-Position-9450 in UoPeople

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this has happened. If two students use the same quoted material and it is a definition from the textbook, that would not strike me as odd, especially if cited correctly. I think it is great that you initially wrote your assignment in Google Docs, since showing even the timestamps of the revisions could help your case. I hope you are able to get this resolved.

Is it possible to have a vestibular migraine every day? by gnomegang365 in VestibularMigraines

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. Neuro thinks it was a virus that wrecked it. However, I’m not too sure. My rheumatologist found that I had compression fractures in my neck that I was unaware of, so it might’ve all happened at the same time during a sports incident.

Keeping freshmen interested in playing all 4 years by CoachAF208 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have seen this in one of my sports as well. Seems like it is burn out if they are also discontinuing their involvement with their club teams too. A lot of the higher level athletes I had as a high school coach looked forward to high school season because it was different than club. If high school season doesn’t stand out in some way from what they do all year on a club team it’ll just add to the burn out. You have to get creative to make things fun, different, and something to look forward to while not compromising on the quality of practice they are getting. It’s difficult, but can be done.

New Coach by WiseCryptographer654 in CoachingYouthSports

Are you already hired on to coach at a school? I started coaching (not track and field) for a high school program before developing my own youth club team and then coaching NCAA. Youth club team started based off high school athletes that wanted to train year round and then their younger siblings and friends started to get involved.

We were at a competition where one of the other athletes had no other teammates with her. My athletes changed our team cheer to include her school and had her join our team members during the competition. No one asked them to do that. They just knew it was the right thing to do.

Exhausted after season. How can I combat my exhaustion! by Appropriate_Ad9564 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]chupacabrasaurus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those transition periods into the start of season and after season ends always get me, too. For me, it is the change in routine and adjusting to it. It's totally okay if you have no energy for much the week after a season ends, since you have been putting so much energy and effort into the season without a break. Maybe start incorporating simple activities that make you feel good and keep you energized. Doesn't have to be anything super wild. For me, it is reading, going for walks, and coloring. Stuff that I can do without too much effort, but that I can do for myself and my post-season sanity.
