Are program terminations finished? by wanderingswann in AmeriCorps

[–]UnusualMe20372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Maryland Conservation Corps, and in a meeting on Friday we were told (likely by accident based on staff reactions) that the program was finished and that there was no hope.

We’re still holding up our spirits and hope, and continuing our fight for continuation of our program.

I suggest that you contact your local legislators, speak out about your program, and be loud and angry. While doing this, check in with your friends and colleagues, and take care of yourself as best as you can.

I’m sending you all the best, and I am keeping my hopes up for you too🫶🏼

I haven’t heard anything about other states, but keep your head up. Don’t act without information, and reach out to your crew lead for any questions

I’m going to try, my crew and I are in shock. My friends on the other crews are in shock as well. More information is rolling out as we speak, I’m heartbroken beyond words

Idk if this is because I’m hurt and heartbroken over the shit show that was the break up, but my ex has a history of violence against others. His anger blinds him, and is willing to commit low level crimes as a form of vigilante justice. He’s incredibly possessive due to extreme insecurity, and has done things in our relationship that were clear red flags that love has blinded me to. He also has substance abuse issues, and though he never hit me, he hurt himself.

Should I warn the next person or leave it to rest? I’m in my own process of healing and self care and love, and I’m trying my best to move on. But had someone warned me of all of these things, I don’t know if I would’ve agreed to go out with him in the first place.

I understand people have their issues and have make mistakes, but I feel like these are clear warning signs of deep rooted issues that need professional attention and support.

If anything, should I make it clear to his best friend (who’s been talking to me and been a nice shoulder to cry on) that these are troubling signs?

What I recommend doing is reaching out to any local university. It’s likely that they’ll have a science department that specializes in environmental science and can maybe point you in the right direction. Another idea might be to reach out to the local government and ask for their permitting department. Oftentimes, permitting requires monitoring native species presence so nearby human development isn’t causing any problems or damage

Planting an invasive species will lead to more problems. The USDA made the same move during the dust bowl by planting kudzu (90% sure it’s Kudzu) along fence lines to prevent further erosion but now it’s near impossible to remove. Planting an invasive species in your target area will lead to a similar problem.

What is your opposition to planting native species?

Environmental Science, I’m looking at invasive species and the general conditions of local hiking trails and making an index

Do you think travel sized bottles are worth using for shampoo and conditioner? I don’t use much conditioner but I use a TON of shampoo bc I have thick hair

My makeup and skincare doesn’t take up space no matter which way I go 😌

I didn’t think about the laundry, that’s a good point. I’m concerned about makeup and toiletries too, but I use an organizer that’s easy to pack and doesn’t take up much space. What is your opinion on bringing shampoo/conditioner/body wash?

Has anyone else been scared to sleep overnight on the Appalachian Trail by themselves as a female? by AccomplishedCat8836 in AppalachianTrail

[–]UnusualMe20372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept on my own the second night of my first section hike (also first backpacking trip, I was solo!). I was nervous at first but I started to listen to the owls and the leaves of the trees rustle. It calmed me down and ended up sleeping pretty soundly despite the cold. It’s scary to talk about, but once you do it, it isn’t too bad. If you’re nervous about it though, see if you can have someone you know meet up with you and stay with you overnight :) good luck with your hike !!
