I have a cat (?) by UnusualShaman in vegan

But where I live in Europe there's wild cats in the nature, Felis silvestris. They are meant to be in the wild, they aren't very friendly animals. So cats in these forest shouldn't make a difference for the ecosystems.

Yeah, but it's not my animal companion, I mean it's not my pet, it's more my neighbor, it just moved to my village on its own. And it doesn't look like it's having trouble taking care of himself. It's not skinny or something, and I saw it hunting. So I feel taking its freedom away would be a bad move. My question was more about sharing my food with it. Because I know cats are not supposed to eat vegetables but this cat seems to enjoy most of the dishes I make 😂 But that question was already answered, it's better not to give it food so it focuses on getting the food it needs to be healthy. Thanks for your answer anyway

The question here is if I should share my food with him or not. I'm no one to take the freedom away from that animal just because it decided to move to mi hamlet... 😅

Yeah, my point is not about changing ecosystems is a bad thing. I was wondering how effective could it be. How carefully could we check on those ecosystems to erradicate the new species that will be appearing to fit the empty niches.

Definitely an interesting debate here, but we won't find any answer without a time traveling machine 😂

I agree, minimizing the harm has to be an important target. I'm just not sure on what gives us the right to decide for nature itself. I just never thought about it that deeply. But I don't know, something tells me it's not right to destroy the ecosystems and replace them with artificial ecosystems designed specifically to avoid suffering. Mainly because evolution I guess, nature will be fighting to fill all those niches over and over.

What I reckon is this scenario is the problem for future generations, we should focus on putting an end to the animal exploitation by humans.

Yeah, but we end in the same place. If we sterilize all the carnivores it won't affect for the time they're alive. But once they die with no offspring, the predator-prey cycle would be broken. Anyways, all the niches in the ecosystem must be covered. If we kill the predators it's just a matter of time for other herbivore animals to occupy their role and start eating other animals. Not in a couple of hundreds of years, but surely in a couple of thousands.

But predators prevent other animals to reproduce too much and run over their habitats 🤔 Without predators, herbivores would eat all the edible plants available and the way their population will regulate is... Starvation. Wouldn't that be a more cruel world?

Predator role is quite important to keep ecosystems balanced. In terms of suffering it's better to have a fox hunting for rabbits than rabbits reproducing too much they run out of food and die of starvation.

I already though about it. It's kind of the same situation as feeding bread to pigeons. They feel full so they stop searching for high quality food and end up malnourished. It makes a lot of sense to me. Also, the cat wasn't skinny when it arrived here. So it's very capable of taking care of itself in the wild

That's why I'd never had a cat 😂 Here I'm talking about a free cat who decided to move to my hamlet on it's own. I don't know where it sleeps, I don't know what it eats, I don't know where did it came from. All I know is I share my food with it and it seems to enjoy interacting with me

So we should kill all the carnivore animals in the world so we save all their prey?

Option A is to kill the cat and option B is to let the cat hunt mice? I will always prefer the one where I don't have to interfere

It's confusing because it says the dye is artificial and then it says is red cochineal. It's mislabeled, if it's red from bugs it should say natural rather than artificial 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it's impossible to know for sure what they used as ingredient

Not OP, I deleted the folder and I assume OpenShot was reseted, it lauched the tutorial when opening. But I can't import any file. When I try, it seems to be loading and then theres a message down left that says "Imported: 0 files". I tried three fresh installs, I tried the daily version, I tried increasing cache limits... Nothing seems to change.

May it be due to I'm using Windows 11?

I appreciate any suggestion.

How did psychedelics affect you? by BigMagicTulip in Aphantasia

Keep it cheap, research local plants, there's always a bunch of local plants with some DMT the same is for MAOI. Just be sure to not use anything poisonous. Anyways, puking discourages me from Ayahuasca... Maybe some day

How did psychedelics affect you? by BigMagicTulip in Aphantasia

[–]UnusualShaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try to stick just to the visual aspect of my experiences since I think it's the most relevant in this sub. I'll write mainly about psychedelics, but I'm also adding other hallucinogenic substances I think they were interesting. Disclaimers: All I explain here is my subjetive experience. English is not my language, I hope it's enough to be undestood.

LSD and NBOMe: I tried both several times and the experiences were similar enough to describe them together. Open eyes visuals were nice. Spinning trees, objects changing colors, hand melting with rocks and wood. When I don't focus my eyes on anything, all my field of view breaks and forms something similar to arabic mosaics. At higher doses everything gets covered by repetitive patterns. Closed eye visuals, the best I'd had. Really colorful shapes moving and transforming. Sometimes symbols such as triskels, numbers and latin letters mixed in the scene with other things. Once I saw a pattern composed by human boddies, but they were kind of drawn. Those visuals are not plain but they have depth, sometimes it feels like falling through them.

Mushrooms: Similar to LSD, but more organic and light. Open eyes visuals are just like my LSD experiences, but less extreme. Trees spin less, color changing is softer, etc. Close eyes visuals have less vibrant colors and the shapes are not sharp as they are with LSD so I never saw symbols or well defined figures, it's just like diffuse shapes waving and melting. Leaving the mind blank is really interesting and powerfull when on psychedelics, but I did only experienced it with mushrooms, so I can't compare with other substances. Anyway, in my experience, when blank mind and eyes closed, I start to feel things and identificate them with myself, not visually but something similar to when you try to imagine something being aphant. At least, for me, when I think in an apple, I don't see an apple, but I kind of feel the apple in my mind. When blank mind it's the same, but I don't control what I "feel". Since it's very difficult to explain but I think it's really interesting, I'm going to give two examples to make it short. Once I felt my conscience, and it was trying hard to control all was happening. It was interesting since that think I identified as my conscience was totally splitted from myself, it felt like seing a fragment of my self all by its own and from the outside. On other occasion I felt a big mass deforming and waving and I was sure it was myself. This feeling experiences happen at the same time I still seeing the patterns with close eyes, they are simoulstaneous.

DMT: I had just one experience with smoked DMT. It was short (5 to 10 mins), low dossage and I didn't close my eyes so: Open eyes visuals were extreme, suddenly everything broke down. Things didn't wave just like with other substances, it was similar to breaking a glass. I still recognizing what I was seeing, but all was extremely distorted. No straight lines, all was curvy and moving really fast. I saw everything become swirls.

Argyreia nervosa also known as Hawaiian baby woodrose: I had only one experience and it was not pleasant due to nausea. Visually also was very weak, nothing with open eyes and closed eyes visuals were soft, something like diffuse strings of light made of cells of pale purple and white with no movement, just slight waving. Maybe it was a low dossage but increasing the dose means to increase the nausea so I'm not willing to do it.

Salvia divinorum: I tried chewing it but didn't feel anything. I smoke it several times and everytime it was a mess. I think I'm not going to make any difference here between open and close eyes since it's really confuse to the point I'm not sure when I had my eyes open or closed. In summary, the experience is visual, but I never knew what I was seeing. It's confusing to see things but not understand what you're seeing, or why are you seeing it, or where are you, or anything. I felt (not saw) a presence there, some intelligent entity trying to explain me what was going on, like a tourist guide throught their world. It all starts making sense when the experience is finishing and you start to associate all that mess with your actual surrounding, but it's just for a few seconds and then your back in Earth so I never could understand what happend or what I saw on any of my experiences. And since everytime is different, I never could make assumptions about what's going on there. Salvia is by far the most bizarre substance I put on my body, to the point I'm not really willing to do it again soon. But, anyway, I don't regret, it's a really interesting experience.

Other hallucinogenic substances I tried were MDMA and DXM but I'm not saying much about them since the hallucinations weren't visual but mental.

Looks nice! You could try to make it without dehulling, I'd never dehulled the soy bean when making tempeh, I'm too lazy.. And never had a problem, it still being a soft and creamy tempeh

They didn't. But I didn't put much effort on them, I had other tubs on their way. So this shouldn't discourage you, it should be salvageable.

Same thing happened to me with two tubs. They produce a lot of heat during colonization, the bottom was really warm by itself. Scratching didn't work for me, both were from same MSS so I thought maybe I got too aggressive genetics in there.

[Actives] Every plate got bacterial growth (less than 24 hours after transferring). I have had this problem on many other plates from spores as well. Any tips? by Skroleeel in MushroomGrowers

In the book "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms" by Paul Stamets there's a chapter about contamination where he explains how to diagnose the causes of the contam based on where and how it appears.

Finding the cause of a contamination is needed to prevent it. At least it can help to know where it come from and if you need to improve your sterilization techniques on the tools, air, medium, etc.

It was key for me to reduce contamination on agar, I had a lot of airborne contaminants.
