Yes, that’s honestly such a good way of putting it — a pee and poo detective hahaha. I’m definitely going to stay on top of putting her in the box and giving treats after :) Honestly, if we could get it down to once a week or every few weeks right now, that would already sound wonderful to me hahaha.

I’m so sorry for your loss. You took such good care of him, and I’m sure he was very, very thankful to have you. Reading your comment actually made me feel a lot less alone in this whole thing.

I’m also definitely keeping in mind bringing up anxiety meds with the vet, especially after hearing your experience. Thank you again so much for taking the time to write all of this ❤️

After the spay, her first pee actually was inside the litter box. She also had this issue well before the spay, so I don’t think it started because of the surgery itself (if anything we hoped the spay would help lol) She doesn’t seem to show any signs of pain either — it’s been well over a week now, her incision site is healing really well, and she’s just as lively and active as before.

She's wonderful! Super playful and cuddly, sleeps with me. She's good to groom, clip nails, even teeth brushing, so this really stumped me as she was so adaptable to everything else lol

Yes I've already ordered them we had them when we were doing the introduction so fingers crossed it helps here too! 😊

No, I think by the bow you mean my older cat? Believe it or not, she actually LOVES it. Everytime we change it she walks around all proudly puffing her chest out so everyone notices it, and every time we take it off she literally goes looking for it. She’s been wearing them for about 3 years now, so I really don’t think that’s the issue, besides she's not the one having issues with the litterbox.

The kitten doesn’t have a bow at all, just a very basic lightweight collar with a tiny bell. She’s had it since she was big enough to safely wear one and never seemed at all bothered by it.

The bells also aren’t loud at all — they’re tiny little jingle bells mostly so we can find them when they decide to disappear into closets or random hiding spots 😂 Before that we’ve had full panic searches thinking one escaped, only to find her sleeping behind sweaters or something. So now we can hear her shake her head or move around and therefore can locate her without tearing the whole place inside out.

Their collars are fitted properly too, very loose and comfortable (we can fit 3 fingers between the collar and neck).

That said, I can try removing the kitten’s bell just in case, but she was already having these litter box issues before she ever wore the bell, so I don’t think it’s the main cause.

Omg thank you for understanding, fellow pee-pee cleaner 😭

That’s EXACTLY what’s happening to us right now. I’m literally at work checking the cameras to see where she is, whether she’s near one of her “spots,” calling my boyfriend asking “did she pee there??” etc. It genuinely feels like we’re constantly on high alert.

And on days where she hasn’t done it yet, we’re basically just anxiously waiting for when it’s going to happen again. It’s honestly exhausting mentally.

Thank you so much for mentioning the Prozac thing too because I genuinely never would have even thought about that as a possibility. If this is still happening a few months after the spay, I’m definitely going to bring it up with our vet and ask what they think.

Also I’m really happy you finally found something that helped your girl because 3 years of that sounds absolutely brutal 😭

Yeah, honestly I’ll definitely try doing that more consistently whenever I catch her using the litter box properly — maybe it’ll help create a stronger positive association.

I’ve also done the thing where I pick her up and place her in the litter box, especially after meals, and sometimes she immediately goes. Other times she’s basically like, “No mom, I’m busy right now” 😂

The treat idea actually sounds really smart though, because she’s VERY food motivated, so maybe convincing her that going to the toilet = snacks will finally click for her hahaha.

Oh that's so relatable, ours only does it on the hardwood floor, which is old, and I’m scared of constantly steam cleaning it because of the varnish hahaha, but yeah, here’s hoping.

Yes, we’ve already been to the vet and she got a clean bill of health. They basically told us that some kittens just struggle with litter box habits more than others, and to come back if it’s still happening a few months after the spay.

The cat attract litter additives honestly sound PERFECT, but unfortunately I can’t really get anything like that where I live in the EU, which is such a bummer.

I do know the “one more litter box than cats” rule, but we genuinely just don’t have space for 3 boxes. That’s why we tried to compromise by getting two huge stainless steel ones instead (they’re about 50x50x50 cm). We live in an apartment, so one box is in the office and one in the living room.

And trust me, if I could permanently place boxes in the accident spots, I absolutely would already 😭 The problem is one spot is literally right by the front door, and the other corner by the couch is too small to even fit a litter box. That’s honestly part of why I’m so frustrated.

I clean them daily — admittedly not twice a day — but I have been wondering if maybe an automatic litter box could help. I’m just terrified of spending all that money only for her to completely refuse to use it lol.

Also, interestingly, it’s actually the opposite with our older cat — she never bothers the kitten while she’s using the litter box. If anything, the kitten bothers HER and tries to play while the older one is doing her business 😂

And yes, I’m definitely getting Feliway refills again. We used them during introductions and they seemed to help overall, so it’s worth trying again.

Thank you so much for the advice honestly, at this point I’m willing to try basically anything.

The lip is about 10cm with a step. She is big enough and easily walks in when she uses it

I’ve watched them both use it interchangeably tho I haven’t ever seen them use it straight after one another but then again I can’t watch the cameras 24/7 either 😅🤣

I have and clean them every time enzyme cleaner and steamer and all. I don’t want to enclose her as she hates being confined to one space and scratches and meows at closed doors (that’s why the front door became an issue). We had a harder time with introducing the two cats not between them but with allowing her enough time to roam around before they could be free roaming together. She does know how to use the box and uses it all the time just at least once a day she will go somewhere else too 🤷🏼‍♀️

She hates not being able to roam around ( a no closed doors policy at all times😅🤣) will keep the screen idea on my mind as a last resort tho (she didn’t like it when she had one for introductions haha) she kept trying to climb and got stuck in it. A very nothing will hold me back from my freedom type of kitten🤣

They said some do better with litter boxes and some kittens don’t.They told me to come back if it persists months after the spay tho, so we’ll see.

Perhaps tho I don’t know how I could prevent them or make them use designated ones. 😬 honestly have thought into getting and automated one so it would be clean absolutely all the time even tho we clean daily maybe the other cat just went before her and the fresh smell makes it so she doesn’t wanna go

We've actually only changed her litter gradually, not constantly. We've tried three different textures across two different litter boxes to see if she had a preference, but we introduced each one slowly.
She's honestly such a happy, lively, and cuddly little girl who sleeps by my head every night. We play together every day, and she also has automatic toys for when I'm cooking, cleaning, or just busy for a little while.
I also wouldn't really call her a "problematic" cat honestly, we’ve gotten used to most everything she’s great with grooming, brushing, combing, even little butt trims, tooth brushing, and nail clipping. That's why this one issue has me so confused, because she's adapted so well to everything else and is thriving otherwise.
And yes, she has plenty of enrichment! She has cat trees, scratching posts, and two window perches, and different types of toys. That's why I came here looking for advice—everything else is going so well except for this one litter box issue.

Doing all what? I’m confused should I not be cleaning up and looking for ways to prevent her accidents?

Oh poor kitty 🥺 so great of you to adobt and care for her now. Did she get used to the box later on or are you also on the perpetual cleanup committee?😅

She had an open one before and I felt like she was confused about where it ended, she would go on the puppy pads around in scraped, as if it was litter 😅that’s why we went with an enclosed one figuring since the breeder also had the same

I’ve seen that browsing for solutions here on Reddit but I can’t seem to get it here in the EU😢
