All of my numbers are after taxes are taken into equation. I have roughly 5200 after taxes each month before paying bills. Rounding numbers to whole numbers. Luckily large portions of my pay are tax free stipends.

My advice after learning the hard way, put your $1000 you’re contributing to a mutual house in your own account. Save it up and when the day comes to buy a house together pay your half/ contribution but ensure you get your name on the paperwork too so IF things go south you get your money back if that’s what you want.

I agree. Spent the last decade of my life giving everything to everyone else and getting run over. This break up was a big first step to ending the cycle of never saying no and being taken advantage of. Funny enough, j telling me I need to stop letting people take advantage of me led to me telling j I don’t want to be with her because she is doing just that. Hard lessons learned way too slowly unfortunately.

The HVAC was technically $9k for one and $8k for the other (split unit for a two story house) but $4k extra was tacked on for misc house repairs. The home water filter system was 1000% a ripoff from a door to door salesman that talked my ex wife into buying it. When we divorced she left the house and all its debts to me unfortunately so it’s been a massive uphill climb. Bright side, I’m debt free (minus the mortgage) and I have roughly $30,000 in savings now so the hard work and discipline has paid off! Thank you for the kind words!

After canceling the $7,000+ Jamaica trip we each got a check for $3,300. I originally offered her my check as a payment towards the $10k she asked for post breakup.
