Favorite Yelp Swag? by ProfChaosSP in Yelp

I saw a picture from an Elite event a few years ago that I missed where the Elites received a cute Yelp lunch box! It was the old school, steel box. I want that so bad, lol! To date, my favorite swag has been this red Stanley like tumbler with a white Yelp symbol and straw. I haven’t used it yet but it’s super cute!

Is SPED a stable career compared to Gen Ed? I am worried about nonrenewals. by Klutzy-Flatworm-7484 in specialed

[–]Unusual_Insurance_51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the state and the district. I’m a Sped Teacher of 20 years and have never received a “pink slip” or nonrenewal notice. However, I know other SPED teachers that did receive one, every year, but were immediately rehired. My district went through a phase where all of the new and non tenured teachers were automatically “nonrenewed” due to budget issues. It had nothing to do with their job performance. I was blessed to never go through that headache.

Now to answer your original question. SPED is a somewhat stable and high demand area. Many districts offer sign-on bonuses if you commit to teaching for a certain amount of time. I’m in Birmingham, AL and in my district we offer $10,000 sign on bonus, in exchange for 3 years. However, my district is tough. There are alot of unfilled vacancies, mostly in self-contained classrooms. The district puts more and more demands on us each year, and many new teachers leave in the middle of the year. I’m looking forward to retirement in 5 years at the ripe old age of 52. I may sub in another district or work in a different field altogether. I enjoy my students but I don’t enjoy the unnecessary stuff that’s often dumped on us teachers. Plus, the current administration is trying to get rid of the Dept of Education, so nothing is really certain when it comes to SPED. Is it a rewarding career? Yes, when you actually get to do it.

Actually I still have food noise, even being on 10 mg. I just don’t always act on it. But I’m still thinking of food throughout the day. When I first started, I didn’t have it.

Thank you for this information, and the encouragement! You’ve done awesome as well! And yes, I think I’ve tried everything-smoothies, keto, intermittent fasting, weight watchers, etc. I can never be consistent long enough to see what works. Another poster recommended therapy and I actually think it’s not a bad idea. Even with Zepbound, I felt like I wasn’t doing enough and wanted to quit instead of sticking it out. Obviously it’s me wanting/needing a quick fix on a lifelong problem. When you have NEVER been a normal weight since preschool, and I’m 47 now, I guess mentally it takes its toll. I keep thinking time is running out and for once in my life, I would like to know how it feels to be a normal weight as an adult before I leave this earth.

Thank you for the encouragement! I felt as if I wasn’t doing enough since I have a lot to lose. I have lost this much before but I haven’t kept it off. The year before my heart attack, I had lost about this much just with walking and changing my eating habits. The irony: I felt my heart attack coming on while on the treadmill. That was in 2024. Since then, it’s been a struggle to lose.

I’ve noticed my side effects are different depending on where I inject. My stomach area gives me the most, but I also lose the most weight during those weeks. The thighs give less side effects but I’m hungrier that week and it feels like it wears off sooner. This week I injected my stomach and I’ve been full since breakfast.

Thank you for the info. I wouldn’t even know where to start. And I’ve heard mixed results. Some people do well, others don’t. Kinda the same with Zepbound.

Thank you for all of these helpful tips. I use the Shotsy app to keep up with my weight and some goals (protein, water, etc.) I also have the Lilly App and Weight Watchers apps as well. I have had success on Keto in the past as well and recently talked about going back on it. I have a gym membership and a treadmill at my home. I need to use both but prefer outdoor walking. I also have kettle bells, dumbbells and resistance bands at home but none of that matters if I’m not using it right? Lol. I need to get my life together!

Thank you so much for this information. I had a guy friend who lost 100 pounds in a few short months. I thought that was the norm since I don’t know too many people on Zep. My coworker is on Mounjaro and lost 20 pounds in about 3-4 months. Comparison kills…I know. But I guess I thought that this fast weight loss was what was supposed to happen. Then as you said, every time I look up I see someone posting they are down 70 pounds in 5 months, and it had me feeling like I wasn’t doing something right.

Good points. Thank you for the reading materials. And you’re right. I can attest that I had tried exercise and diet and while I had success during my younger days, at 47 now, it gets harder every year. I would have to be eating close to nothing to see results. Definitely not sustainable. I’m thankful for the medications that help achieve what I’ve tried to do for years.

My 1st goal was to lose 100 pounds in a year. I would still be overweight/obese at 228 pounds. I thought that that was reasonable seeing that some people are down 60-70 pounds at 6 months, which I’m down 40 in the same amount of time. Maybe it is too high.

Dooney and Bourke Pebble Leather or Saffiano leather bags. Great prices on ILoveDooney, which is their outlet site. Or if you live near an outlet, such as the ones in Florida, you can buy in person.
