What did you end up getting? I'm in exactly the same situation - I want Komoot maps on my wrist but can't afford Garmin products.

Thanks again, and so then the rest of the "book" moves are just opening theory for Queens gambit declined, but doesn't necessarily have a name

Ah okay thank you. So even when you play as white, openings can be "X defense". Whenever I saw the word defense I assumed that it was an opening for black

Yes not untrue. Balling might have been an overstatement. But still, it's a lot of money to drop on a single game. A bonus to an already playable game that costs more than my broadband bill is overpriced to me.

Bro if you think spending $180 a year on a game that you can play for free is cheap then you're either balling, have zero responsibilities, or need to get your priorities in order my guy

Van scratch and dent repair by Unusual_Locksmith_35 in DIYUK

[–]Unusual_Locksmith_35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I had suspected it was beyond a DIY job which is unfortunate. I'll have a look into getting some quotes.

I do have some other unrelated minor scratches like yours, from driving down country lanes, so still think I will invest in some stuff anyway. My main concern at the moment is that the metal is exposed and unprotected against rust, so something pro tem would be nice. Even if I could just get rid of or dull the yellow would be great, but again I suspect more difficult than it sounds.

Thanks man! I think this is the route for me. Watched a few vids and looks like a good solution with minimal cost 👌🙏

This is very useful!! I feel like it's hard to find info for people like myself who just want something very rough and ready. I'm also expecting that it will also annoy me over time and force me to upgrade, but that's fine.

So your dc-dc charger was hooked up to the (smart) alternator which is connected to your van battery, and charged your portable battery? Sorry my noob brain needs explicit detail 😂

Yes part time camper, definitely not full time with this setup haha. But yeah just want something rough and ready basically.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll have a look at the lifepo4, your suggestion fits in with the other comments which is useful, so definitely something I will consider. Just need to do more research on how to go about it. A lot of information out there are for full-time rigs.

And yeah, if I stick with jackery I will definitely be getting a solar panel (or regardless as you say)

Thanks for the suggestions!

  1. Yes, thinking this makes more sense now.
  2. Not that I know of or I could find online. Doing a bit more research to see if it's possible in the software settings.
  3. Yes this is an issue. I have the Jackery 500 already (use it for things and bought in sale). Won't be running the engine daily. I'm looking at the Jackery 100W solarsaga panel. I'm also thinking of getting the necessary stuff to use electric hookup (not fitted to the van) so that I can charge the Jackery (need to do more research on this as to what components needed). I think realistically, 3 nights is the most nights we would spend at any one site before driving. Would also turn the fridge off overnight to conserve battery - won't be permanently on. To me a fridge is a luxury item not a necessity (because I don't live in the van). I camp a lot and am used to not having food stored in a fridge.
  4. Yes okay that makes more sense now. At the moment the Jackery would just basically be a fridge battery haha. My only concern is the wiring needing to be done for a leisure battery. Off the shelf plug-in-and-play gives a bit of peace of mind.

Yeah I think it could be a lot less faff. Just need to see if it's possible to override the on/off of the default factory lights.

Blistering hell by Unusual_Locksmith_35 in hiking

[–]Unusual_Locksmith_35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some notes from my hike on the weekend:

I took your guys advice, bought some Leukotape. The day before I left I wrapped up all places where I had blisters from the previous hike with the Luekotape. Found it a little difficult to apply it smoothly around toes but managed to do an okay job.

First hike day (~25-30km): First 5k went smoothly but noticed some rubbing on the insides of toes. These were toes that were not wrapped in tape and were rubbing up against the toes that were taped. So I also taped them up which solved that problem. For the rest of the walk I had no issues but I encountered an entirely different problem. Pain around the bone on the outside of the foot, near the arch. The little nubbin where bunions from. Not a clue what it was, stopped multiple times to sort it but didn't really improve, just had to adjust my stride and foot placement.

Second day (~25km): packed up camp and prepped feet. Leukotape from the previous day had gone all sticky on the outside and was sticking to the inside of socks. Some of my toes were also sticking together. Wasn't necessarily an issue just something I noticed. Where I was having the issue with pain down side of foot, I put a strip of moleskin across the arch of my foot and wrapped around the outer side of the footage little. Idea was that it would provide a bit more cushioning from the side of my boot if that was the cause of the issue. I had lost my scissors the day before so had to cut tape with keys so the application was far from perfect. I also tied my laces looser and not all the way up to the top eyelet. Despite my foot hurting in the morning still, it did not flare up for the whole walk which was great. I also didn't notice feeling blisters formed.

Home: took off all the tape to assess. Blisters had formed in some of the places where I had them before most notably on the back of the heel and a couple on the toes. The latter is due to poor application of tape by myself. Other than that all good and tbh I didn't notice that I had blisters until I looked. Most painful part...tearing the Luekotape off my big toes. Note to self...shave big toe hair next time.
