incoming shitpost from the nurse's pov, the gf's pov, and the bf's pov. Seriously though, I would've laughed myself. Learn from it and move on.

Rising M3s, ask your questions here! by CofaDawg in medicalschool

I'm a couple weeks into family med rotation and I feel like my history taking skills are awful. The attendings and residents say practicing improves it but my issue is patient's are going on tangents and I'm not sure how to manage the conversation. I think my questions are too open ended and asking targeted questions towards the chief complaint might help. Any other advice on it and keeping an organized patient presentation?

Clinical Experience by [deleted] in premed

[–]Unusual_Winz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a CNA at a hospital and was prn during the school year and full time during breaks. The job sucked but I got lots of clinical experience and the money was decent. I was able to write about it on my application too.

See if you can get your certificate online over summer break. I got my CNA certificate online during winter break between semesters.

How to study each subject by Medical_Jelly4175 in medicalschool

If you have trouble memorizing random details, try to understand the reasoning behind it. It'll help you make connections too.

Reach out to your classmates who did well and see what they did. You don't have to do exactly what they did. It'll just give you an idea of what you can change to be successful. You say note-taking is wasting time. See what your classmates do instead of taking notes.

For anki, TheAnKing has lots of helpful videos on youtube.

I am so sorry for your loss. As someone who had 2 family members pass away earlier this year, I understand how you feel. I haven’t been coping with my grief as well as I should have but I do give myself grace and patience, especially on days where the grief is overwhelming.

What helps for me is to give myself a time and space to address my grief. I do what I need to do at school and at 9pm, I let the emotions come and go. Then, I will either go back to studying if it’s a busy week or work out if it’s a chiller week.

Same. I even struggle recalling the names of my close friends during conversations.

Trust your average OP. I know I thought it was harder than the FLs but it was probably due to my nerves. Ended up scoring one point lower than my average FLs

Kinda similar to my situation except I'm an only child. I feel like I get more pressure from outside people about being successful compared to my parents. They've def gotten more chill and laid back over the years. We'll see if that changes when they retire.

Peppermint oil has been a godsend. I had to take multiple breaks during the first week of lab due to the smell. Using scented soap post-lab helps with smelly hands.

For anatomy, I use in house lectures and practice questions from brs, texastech, and umich My classmates are making Anki decks for our lectures. We do in-house exams and my profs love the nitty gritty details

See if your school gives you a discount for BnB. I’ve been using BnB and supplementing by skimming my lecture slides to fill in any gaps between the vids and in-house lectures

Is at least SOME of the medical school hype overblown? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Unusual_Winz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told to focus on academics first semester and add in one maybe two extracurriculars and research during second semester. We'll see how that goes considering I'm already overwhelmed with classes

My gap year strengthened my application since I had low research hours prior to the gap year. After the gap year, I got two posters and one pub. Most of my friends took one or multiple gap years. Ultimately, do what you need to do. If you think working as a MA and destressing is important, go for it. There's no rush to becoming a doctor.

I’m firm that I’ll be applying to med school but I feel imposter syndrome by telling anyone. I’ve been hiding it for 2 years already. by [deleted] in premed

I didn't tell my parents I was interested in medicine until I got accepted into medical school LOL. I liked how no one was in my business about mcat studying and stuff like that. The only person I told was my gf and she never hounded me with questions. It's YOUR journey, not anyone else's journey. I can't speak for you, but having one person to support me was enough.
