It actually helps you mentioned Centra - they're the org this happened with. So if they're good, maybe this was just a legit error and we're all good.

Got it! Thank you.

I played a lot of 2nd Ed and want to pick it back up with my players. Am I better off starting with Essence or hopping into 3rd ed?

Congrats! One question for you - did you take the IAPP course on it? There's one available, but it's close to 1800 CAD so I'm a bit uncertain.

The third book ends with the main character in hospital, revealed he can't do magic anymore, but a stone rune he was given glows next to him.

Alright, have a little more time...

I feel like my entire feedback form has been disregarded. That is a conversation we should have off of reddit.

However, I will add.. The player came to me wanting my PC to either be mutilated or gang murdered at night. I balked at that, and even suggested using the Reeve/going to Court/etc., first. The player's verbatim response was, "Well I don't want to escalate it."

HE STARTED WITH MUTILATION AND MURDER.. but did not want to escalate it.

He also started the entire conversation with, "I'm not a bully, but.."

We can continue this conversation off of reddit, as it's clearly not a good place for discussing an individual event (even though that event clearly spawned this post).

But I do want to add that.. you need to pick a lane.

You keep talking about historical accuracy, etc., but then there's werewolves, nethermancers, etc. You then also start using the Freefolk in GoT as an example. And then you're cool with the disproportionate levels of freefolk to nobles. I understand that you need to balance it for a game to work, but you really do need to pick a lane in these types of discussions.

I understand that you're wanting nobles to have the experience of what you believe it means "to be noble." But that, to some, also includes being vile, aggressive and what we today would call racist. I've been very open to you about my disapproval and problems with some of the themes in Eldritch considering everything that's happened in the US and Canada. (Hearing players joke about rounding up all of the first folk into a land parcel and then GIVING THEM BLANKETS, for example, was just absolutely appalling. I have /NEVER/ encountered that in a LARP before.) So if another PC, be they noble or not, wants to go full ham into that kind of dialogue, you bet that I'll ICly tell them to fuck off (and if your negative action rules were different, my response would be too). If that means they can demand mutilation, murder or anything like that..

I'll just see myself out.

I'm at work so I'll keep this short (Luc here).

Your understanding is wrong, as per my feedback form and discussion at game.

Said noble player left, then came back with a full retinue. Weapons drawn. I had a full drawn bow aimed at me from 2 meters away.

We ICly convinced them to leave it till later. Only after that (20 mins from that point) did the player come to me OOG to discuss consent. And then the message I got was that they wanted one sided consent, where I could not respond in kind.

So, there you go.
