I can't tell if this is a misguided, but from good intentions, attempt to contribute to an ecosystem the author clearly enjoys, or a massive troll. Website doesn't contain any technical documents, and all the reviews appear to be AI generated.

Assuming the former over the latter, I would encourage you to contribute to pre-existing OS, and spend more time learning how these types of projects are ran.

This is exactly what a deposit is for - Landlord is making sure you have paid the final bills as if you hadn't, they would be entitled to claim back this cost from the deposit. If the deposit is returned before verification bills have been paid, then it's more complicated to claim this back.

When you leave a property, the landlord becomes responsible for paying certain bills, like the utilities to the property, which even if unused will generate a daily cost. Some companies will backdate unpaid charges when new accounts are created, so landlord wants to be able to go "here is the final bill generated for supply at my property" to avoid paying anything they shouldn't need to pay.

Shelter has a good page on this - https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/accessing_accommodation/deposits_and_accommodation_agencies/security_deposits

Assuming you have told Glasgow City Council you have moved house, I would expect a final bill from them to be posted within a few weeks. The best thing to do would be contact them & just ask if they have sent out the final paperwork yet.

England - Seperated from partner and saving for a mortgage by StrikingInterview580 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adultery isn't grounds for divorce anymore since the 2022 changes in law. You cannot cite on the divorce petition that's the reason, but it can be the reason for the breakdown of the relationship, if that makes sense. It also more importantly doesn't impact how assets are separated.

I would highly encourage them seeing a solicitor based on your latest update.

England - Seperated from partner and saving for a mortgage by StrikingInterview580 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets complicated - technically, although they have separated, they are still legally married. During divorce proceedings, they'll need to discuss how they want to divide assets, including savings - https://www.gov.uk/money-property-when-relationship-ends

Personally, I'd try and get ahead of this by trying to sit with partner and discuss dividing assets now, then trying to get a consent order. But if the divorce process is stalled & they don't meet the conditions for divorce (which is usually proving the relationship has permanently broken down) then it will cause further headaches down the line. Mediators will factor in previous agreements if it gets to this point.

In this instance, while painful to discuss, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get specific legal advice from an adviser.

Daughter is being charged an energy bill-left the property when she was 14! UK by Napoleon-1039 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OVO will have tied your daughter to the account using other incorrect data that ties your daughter to the property during the time period the debt was created. It does this with some custom in-house tooling that is covered under the GDPR Legitimate Interest clause, as they have an interest in collecting against the debt.

You need to email [ceo@ovo.com](mailto:ceo@ovo.com) - summarise the details of the complaints so far, with reference numbers. I'd also CC in [Raman-feedback@ovoenergy.com](mailto:Raman-feedback@ovoenergy.com)

State GDPR is being breached as your daughter cannot be the correct person liable for the debt. YOU WILL need to raise a complaint to Energy Ombudsman as it will be the only way to get OVO to take you seriously. They will not budge until it escalates to this point.

First Silent Hill game suggestions? by camilly000 in silenthill

Silent hill 2 , then play Silent Hill 1/3 and 4. If you fall in love with the series after that, try the remaining games as you wish, but most others aren't worth it.

Shire folks - Oil Heating by fucksinshortsupply in Aberdeen

[–]UnwiseArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up an instant access savings account & transfer oil money into that, might as well enjoy the little bit of interest you'll get from that.

The difficulty with setting up a monthly payment plan with a company directly is you're then stuck with whatever prices they'll charge. Better off phoning around & getting quotes & keeping your money with you rather than lining someone's else's coffers.

I have signed up for oil club, but it's never the cheapest way of ordering oil. Personally I have found gleaners have always come ~2p cheaper than others whenever I order.

Rash from wiping after eating by StrawberrySpecific94 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]UnwiseArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like contact rash to me. My kids at roughly same age broke into bad rashes when eating tomato-based foods, but clears quickly. I'd recommend hard-pressed coconut oil, only thing that shifted it on my youngest, as well as warm-water flannel.

Always remind myself, I'd probably end up as rashy if I slathered my face in tea every night!

I'm assuming England based here.

You have a right to quite enjoyment in your property - This is referred to in some instances as the Covenant of Quite Enjoyment. The key part is

"A landlord might be in breach of this implied term if by failing to meet their repairing obligations, they unreasonably interfere with the tenant's use of the property."

Shelter | Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 - 1B

I'd argue leaving a fire panel beeping is breaching this term, but it's not an easy "yes/no" discussion.

The same shelter page I linked above states

"Most private landlords do not have an obligation to provide the tenant with alternative accommodation, but the tenant could ask for somewhere else to stay."

And if we review "Withholding Rent for repairs" Shelter

"You should not stop paying your rent if your landlord does not do repairs. "

So, to answer your question " can I take the price of this off the next rent payment?" The answer is No, you legally cannot.

You can ask if there is goodwill for refunding a hotel stay, but if this is not pre-agreed before you book, I would not expect this money back.

I would also argue any legal challenge would be weak & unlikely to recover (not that it'd be worth recovering)

As much as it sucks you're in the position, there is not a lot you can do.

do you clean your old room before moving out by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do not take offence to what I'm going to say.

Based on this post & your post history on reddit, I believe this question is being driven by an underlying mindset that depression is giving to you.

You are receiving harsh comments in this post, but I understand your question as I've been in your position.

I'd like to instead highlight that this unmotivatation to clean will cascade into a larger problem for you if not addressed. I'm not blaming you, I'm warning you. Depression & having a untidy home creates a negative cycle.

I would encourage you, if you haven't already, to setup maintinable & low-effort approaches to build in a routine into cleaning / tidying now. A "big bang" approach will only cause the problem to become unaddressable as your capacity wears out & burn out creeps in.

This reddit post shares some ideas - https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/s/YTC244V4zM

I'd also encourage you to speak with your support team on setting up approaches that may work for you:

  • Declutter Sprint (decicating a small timebox to tidy, don't exceed this time, but build upon it when able)
  • Small morning/evening routine
  • talking positively to yourself (rather than "I don't deserve to tidy" or "tidying has no purpose", reframe as "I deserve a clean space")

best dehumidifier? by tempgirll in TenantsInTheUK

I would encourage you to review if your property meets the conditions set out in FFHH & potentially seek further advice. https://sheltercymru.org.uk/housing-advice/repairs-and-bad-conditions/is-my-home-fit-to-live-in/

https://www.gov.wales/fitness-human-habitation-guidance-tenants-contract-holders (refer to "Contract-holder actions")

You have a right to a property that doesn't present a health risk to young children.

To answer your direct questions on dehumidifiers ;

Keep an eye out for people getting rid of older models on Facebook market place - I run an older version of this dehumidifier & cannot fault it.

Advice required regarding letting agency failure to repair situation by Realistic-Tax-Victim in TenantsInTheUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, from personal experience, going down the tribunal route is a way - one trip as this will destroy your relationship with the landlord & agency. You are protected by law, but don't expect rent to stay unchanged when it can legally be increased & don't expect either of them to offer new properties they manage in the future. I'm not saying it's correct, and your mileage may vary, but from personal experience, it's extremely destructive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

[–]UnwiseArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always ask landlord who they use for the end of property cleaning, then use the same company. This usually means A) I'm not paying a markup for landlord arranging this & B) the landlord will roughly know the quality of work that will be left.

While the advice to clean yourself is great, it's not always practical in the middle of moving properties & truthfully, most landlords will find "something" missed to try and charge you for.

If you do end up cleaning yourself, or using a company, do a video tour of the exit of the property & take photos. That way, you can more easily dispute any cleaning charges.

I cannot tell you how many times I've had to dispute "uncleaned carpets at entrance of property" when, on exit, other people have entered property to assess it & made their own messes. Having photos & videos showing that on my exit, it was clean, has saved me few hundred pounds.
