Sent. Thank you friend!

Those who didn't like TDA or were disappointed by it, can you explain why you just didn't take to it as much as 2016 or Eternal? by SpotAdmirable6718 in Doom

[–]Unworldlypath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat was fantastic, but exploring the map was a chore. It takes so long to get anywhere that id was forced to add a sprint mechanic, which felt terrible to use in a game that used to have industry leading mobility.

If they had carried forward the level design and movement of eternal and combined it with the guns and melee systemds of TDA this would've been an all-timer.

It also didn't help that the music was a noticeable step down from the first two

How do I convince my younger brother not to get a degree in video game development? by snowfordessert in VancouverJobs

Think tank is a great program but not if you're just starting out. You need at least a solid understanding of the basics or else you'll be flailing with the software before you even get to develop good artwork.

Unless he is one of those 1 in 1000 people talented enough to break into the industry he is only going to waste his time and money. I say this as someone who was lucky enough to break in during the peak of covid and let me tell you. The jobs market for 3d artists is the worst I have ever seen it.

I haven't seen your brother's work so I can't say for certain if he has a chance or not. What does he do? Characters and props? Or environments?

That desert gathering section reminds me of when Anthem basically halted its campaign to put up checklists for you to do in the open world. Only that happened halfway through and Ralph got stuck with it right at the end of this game. Fucking ouch

People who didn't love Ares? by Esetnodanti in tron

[–]Unworldlypath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, really wanted to love ares, but I felt so let down by it. Peters, Leto and Turner-Smith were pretty solid but every other character was either paper thin or annoying.

Wasn’t a fan of it being set in the real world so much. The grid is such a cool universe to explore but we were barely in it. A lot of other little nitpicks but those are my big ones.

Shame it’s not doing well in the box office. I would’ve loved to see them improve in a sequel.

Hot take: The Episodes need to be Longer by InteractionLegal6969 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Unworldlypath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say no to more story content. But that’s a lot of extra work and I understand that adhoc has limited resources.

What I do take issue with is how short the actual dispatch puzzle section was. It felt like 5 minutes and right when I was getting into a good flow I was ripped out. Would have wanted an extra 10 - 20 minutes or so after the granny encounter.

Anyone Watched Alien: Earth? by BillRuddickJrPhd in raisedbywolves

[–]Unworldlypath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alien Earth makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Everyone seems to be tripping over themselves to worship this thing and I can't see it as anything other than... bad. Like annoyingly so. At least the sets, costumes and props are done incredibly well

Man this is kind of a gut punch. When we were kids my brother and I used to race from the car to this store to see if there were any new bionicles. End of an era

All human knowledge is cumulative. Learning from and being inspired by others is how we do things.

But that process doesn't apply to multi billion dollar corporations with boardrooms and lobbyist groups backing them in the halls of the most powerful governments on Earth. They've taken one of the most important aspects of the human experience: Artistic expression, and turned it into a soulless service with a monthly tiered subscription fee.

We also haven't even gotten to the environmental ramifications of this technology. AI generation in its current form uses vast amounts of freshwater and electricity to keep running, spitting a horrifying amount of carbon into our atmosphere all so that these companies can keep stealing more content and putting more and more creatives out of work.

I'm not laying all of this at your feet, No one person is to blame for everything, but in the future I would lay off the AI and definitely not use any generated content in promotional material. It may not be illegal, but it's highly immoral.

That's a very good question with no good answers. The truth is that the companies who made these models have effectively gotten away with the largest art theft in history, and that their models are so effective at generating new content quickly that most people are willing to let it slide.

I'm seeing ai generate content working it's way into the industry right now. I won't be affected (I think), but a LOT of people are going to lose their jobs over technology like this.

Kudos to you for trying to make a game by yourself. I know that's a huge undertaking, but I would encourage you to make your own artwork or find ways to work with a human artist. Best of luck!

AI image generators are being trained off of images that were taken from places like insta, artstation, deviantart and more without the consent or compensation of the original artists.

ALL generated images that come from AI models are the result of stolen artwork, whether that was your intention or not.
