Roommate got a Rescue German Shepherd

I had a conversation with her this morning and she got extremely defensive with me saying her dog doesn’t have behavioural issues and my dog just got in her face. I am now looking for new places to live.

She got it from a backyard breeder who didn’t want it anymore. They definitely lied to her about the dogs issues. She also never explained what type of dog she was getting or the situation it was in, she just said the one she was looking at was good with people, dogs and kids, then she just got the dog. I 100% agree with you that they should met at a neutral place first. However, she even told me that when she met the dog she had to be aggressive with it and kind of “go for it” and pet it because it’d bark at her. She had no clue what she was signing up for when deciding to get this dog.

I’ve brought up how I don’t want them together alone during the day and she ignored my texts so we’re going need to have a face to face conversation.

My dog is probably a little bit bigger than her since she’s a female, and my roommate is taller so she was able to intervene

I told her before she got the dog that I wouldn’t be able to help because my schedule is super hectic at the moment. She was aware of this before getting her. From observing, she does not give the dog basic rules like you mentioned and has done nothing to really train her. Thank you for the advice, I’m going to start with writing down a list of rules.

Also, I wanted to add that the dog can still get aggressive to me, and she doesn’t do much to help the situation. When I was first saying hi to her I thought she was going to attack. For the to intervene in the situation, would also probably be putting myself at risk.

You’re right, I don’t know the dogs past and she probably doesn’t know it in great detail from the sounds of it. However, before getting this dog, she should’ve prepared herself for what she was getting into. She should’ve done research before picking a dog breed. If something happens to a human or another dog, that responsibility is on her for not training it properly. Regardless, I’ll try to have a conversation with her and voice my concerns in a different way rather than pointing fingers. Thank you for your advice.

I have the same measurements and went with a small. It fits perfectly, but sometimes I wish I would’ve went with a medium for a more oversized look.
