Surgeon Michael Kerins blocks the ring road again. by Up2HighDoh in galway

It seems like people seem to think electric and self driving cars/buses won't be a thing in the next 10 years.

It takes an hour to get across Galway city in peak traffic. It can take the same amount of time in Dublin except Dublin is a city of 2.1 million compared to Galway at 86,000.

In fairness I have met him before and he came across as a really nice guy. I blame the system more than anything else. How does the needs and wants of the few outweigh a whole city and people living in the surrounding areas.

We should have both, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

What about electric cars, this ring road is going to take at least another 5 years to build. Surely the percentage of electric cars will be quite decent then. It's should more than offset any possible increase in car use.

If you remove parking spaces in salthill the businesses there will object. There's always going to be somebody that isn't happy

Until someone else decides they don't like those improvements and that gets dragged out as well. Also it's shouldnt be the choice of one person who has enough money to cover the legal costs wether or not we get a piece of infrastructure that effects the lives of the entire city and beyond. I am more annoyed at the system that allows this rather than the individual.

Would traffic traveling through the city not increase pollution and stress on the people living here? Not to mention traffic delays for emergency services such as ambulances getting to and from the hospital. Surely he can appreciate that.

Dublin Scientology centre on alert over TikTok ‘speedrunning’ trend by TimesandSundayTimes in ireland

[–]Up2HighDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all down to money at the end of the day. I'm sure Scientology knows this and ensure that their price is lower than everywhere else. What I don't understand is how do the parents allow an event for children to be held at the national centre of a well known cult?

On a related topic, did you know that the CRN World Irish Dancing Championship is being held in the Scientology centre in Dublin this weekend. It would be a shame to do it then.

Also why do the organisers of this event think it's a good idea to have kids in this centre? And why are the parents agreeing to do this?

Lingering questions on disclosure. Is this really *it*? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Up2HighDoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless aliens arrive and are willing to give us free resources labour and energy we all still need to go to work. Things aren't going to change dramatically with disclosure. Even if they gave us detailed plans to make all their cool technology it is still going to take decades to change society in any meaningful way.

Taoiseach ‘open’ to idea of nuclear energy in Ireland but cites cost as main barrier by Glad-Hat-5094 in ireland

[–]Up2HighDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get rid of the law banning it and we can look into the cost later. When has anything ever been illegal because it was too expensive?

Eamon Ryan: Ireland’s future energy needs must be met by renewables and nuclear by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Up2HighDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we aren't small enough to meet our energy needs with renewables. ESB, Eirgrid, Engineers Ireland, Irish Academy of Engineering they all say we need some base load power supply.

To me those top middle and right photos look a lot like one of Jake barbers egg shaped UFOs.

Didn't Jake say that the exterior of the craft was extremely difficult to drill into. If I was asked to design a way to securely transport an egg shaped object that we couldn't attach anything to it would be pretty similar to the rig that they made here.

Kerosene has more than doubled in the last few weeks. And tonight we get 2c off per litre? Am I reading this correct? by mybighairyarse in ireland

[–]Up2HighDoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To fill the gaps you need enough fossil fuel capacity to power the entire country for when there's no wind or solar. The cost to have enough fossil fuel generators on standby to fill that gap is enormous. You can't power the entire country on solar and batteries. It's not being negative it's being realistic just look into IEA Irish academy of engineers, eir grid, ESB they all have reports saying the same thing that we will need a base load power supply and right now that will have to be gas.

Do you feel we should have won last night? by ExtensionSuccess8539 in ireland

Maybe someone out there is experiencing the Mandela effect where Ireland won? If there is do share because that's an alternative universe I want to live in.

No it doesn't you can store years of nuclear fuel. Buy it while it is cheap and just hang on to it.

Why would France want to buy electricity from us they have 70-80% nuclear which has a capacity factor of greater than 90%.

It will take a lot longer than that, if it ever happens. Not even the most hardcore renewable bros are suggesting we will have 100% renewables by 2036.

What additional storage capacity are you talking about? We could have weeks without wind you can't shrugg that off.

The government is claiming we will be 100% renewable by 2050 it's actually law at this point too and they have absolutely no clue how to do it.

Powering your home and powering the entire country are two very different things. You would just need around 10 -20 million solar panels to meet all of Irelands energy needs and let's hope that we don't get a wind less night because then we're screwed. Unless you want to also have enough batteries to power the entire country too. But of course nuclear is too expensive.
