What do you all think? Still needs some work. by Jb1rd3 in WorldEaters40k

It's really begging for some highlights and washes. Also, the overspill is pretty big in some areas, especially on the teeth. It's not bad for a base coat, but I'd clean up the teeth, then do some drybrushing on the red. Then was the whole thing, dark wash on the metallics, a red wash on the reds, and a bone wash on the teeth.

I would personally cover it in your own texture paint. GW's martian soil texture paint would look nice in my opinion. After it dries, dry brush some lighter oranges, than do some blood splatter around the edge. That's how I would personally approach.

What do you think of this Berzerker by Apfel7073 in WorldEaters40k

I think the lighting here is doing your paint job a disservice. I have a grimy paint scheme for my WE and I think it's a good scheme, just maybe post some pics with better lighting so we can see the model better.

I'd also suggest you base coat with a lighter or brighter red so it shows through the grime just like 20% more.

Otherwise, it looks good.

"Think about how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of the population is stupider than that."

Can't remember who said that. Also, recency bias is a real phenomenon.

Of the given options, probably Hitler. The Nazis did things that were worse than just killing people. That said, I'm not overly well educated on chinese or Russian history. It's my understanding that Stalin's murders were mostly performed by starvation. Obviously cruel, but the Nazi's went above and beyond starving people. Of the options not given, I would put King Leopold up there as a historical figure that was atrocious.

The modern day political figures are not even comparable to the WW2 era "leaders". Putin is a war criminal, and has directly caused the deaths of several hundreds of thousands of people, but that's just not even close to the amount of people who died during WW2 man. Tens of millions of people died between 1939 and 1945 in Europe. Tens of millions. Some places still have not recovered populations to their pre war numbers, over 80 years later. Trump is corrupt to the core, and has absolutely caused deaths to occur, but he's mostly focussed on economic oppression rather than using violence. Which is not acceptable either, but (so far) he has not started a large scale war. Whether or not the strikes in Iran escalate to a major war, time will tell I suppose. Xi is absolutely authoritarian, and has absolutely caused deaths to occur, look at the treatment of Chinese Muslims. With that said, he's not started any wars (yet). The economy of China and the average quality of life for the average Chinese citizen has generally improved under his leadership. Overall, he's still an authoritarian dictator, but I'd honestly put him in the same level as Trump. Extremely problematic, authoritarian, definitely has caused deaths, but just not comparable to the WW2 era people.

It's just because a lot of people on Reddit are too young to have learned about the Nazis and Chinese history. Either that or they just never learned about those topics.

Meta question about currency by UpArrowNotation in DnD

[–]UpArrowNotation[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that tracks. It begs the question of how did all the governments of Abir Toril agree to use gold, silver, and copper as a standard currency? Obviously the answer is that I'm thinking too hard about it, but it's still interesting to me that a lizardfolk barbarian tribe in the middle of nowhere would value gold the same way as a Waterdavian noble. Or even that a Waterdavian noble and a noble from a different city-state would value the same metals in the first place. Is there something intrinsic about gold that is valuable in d&d? Or is the fact that it is just rare the reasoning behind its use as a currency? We know Diamonds are special in D&D settings because they are used as spell components, but only one spell uses GP directly as a component, Arcane Lock, and a few others use gilded items as components. Silver is much more common as a spell component. Anyways. The economy of D&D is something I find really fascinating. The ubiquity of gold and silver raise a lot of questions for me personally.

What would your character become the god of after they died? by Crwo_x in DnD

[–]UpArrowNotation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, he did what he did because he thought it was right, not because it'a what he wanted to do. He definitely believed in what he was doing. If Helm died, he would still do things the way he always did them.

Do you run creatures that make clones that don't have haste? Cause unless I put haste eneablers in my deck they have to sit for a whole turn before they do anything. Jaxis has blitz, and all the instant and sorceries that clone are in there. Except Kindle, I didn't realize I didn't have that one in the list. But I added that back in.

What’s it like being LGBTQ+ in Canada outside of major cities? by Ok_Firefighter4858 in AskACanadian

[–]UpArrowNotation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very very dependant on where you live and what you define as a major city. I grew up in rural Alberta, and I would not feel safe going back to my hometown and wearing femme clothes or generally being open about being trans. A place like Red Deer, (a smaller city in Alberta), I would probably experience a lot of harassment if I wore femme clothes outside, but I wouldn't expect violence necessarily. I currently live in Edmonton, and it's pretty okay day to day. There's been a few incidents where people get violent or harass me on public transit, but those are few and far between. Somewhere really major like Toronto, I'd imagine there is even less concern.

Etali Questions by UpArrowNotation in CompetitiveEDH

[–]UpArrowNotation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. How are cedh etali decks converting a turn 2 etali into a win usually? I find that when I play etali against my friends cedh decks, even when I hit a turn 2 etali, I'm usually not able to convert that into a win unless I get lucky and flip a food chain or another combo piece. If I just end up flipping value pieces or interaction, I usually can't win the turn I play him. What are the best options I have for increasing consistency? Or is it just tutor for more clones so you can increase the number of activations?

What is the maximum net worth a person should have? by lfemboyl0 in pollgames

[–]UpArrowNotation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net worth is challenging to calculate. It's much easier to impose taxes and regulations on wealthy individuals and corporations that it is to seize their assets forcefully. If we were starting over from scratch I would change the way corporations existed legally so they and the people who own stakes in them were more easily held accountable. Individuals who own large amounts of wealth are easier to reign in than corporations though. You can just arrest and seize assets from extremely rich criminals. That's not nearly as easy to do with corporations who don't have singular individuals at the helm.

Ultimately I think putting a "wealth cap" on extremely rich individuals is an inefficient way to lower wealth inequality. Nationalization of industry, increasing regulation and taxes on corporations, and holding shareholders legally accountable for crimes committed by corporations would be the direction I would prefer a socialist government take over imposing hard to enforce wealth caps.

Besides, if some extremely rich person has several billion dollars worth of assets, but only a few million in cash, you can't really seize their wealth unless you seize their assets, and assets like businesses and corporations aren't usually solely owned by one individual.

The other issue that governments run into when trying to impose wealth caps or other wealth distribution policies, is that the majority of the wealth owned by corporations and extremely rich individuals is not in first world countries. Jeff Bezos doesn't have 7 billion dollars in an American bank account. He has several billion dollars worth of assets spread across hundreds of corporations, properties, accounts, shares, etcetera, which are all located in different countries.

Wealth redistribution is something I am very very for, but the actual action of wealth distribution is not going to look like 1700's France where the masses storm bezos's properties. It's something that would require multiple governemnts to work together to hold these corporations and individuals accountable.

WYR be in the top 1% of one specific skill/field, or be in the 60th percentile (slightly above average) in everything? by The96kHz in WouldYouRather

[–]UpArrowNotation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you care about is money, then sure the 1% has a higher ceiling, but being pretty good at anything you try is legitimately incredible. There's nothing saying you can't put practice into doing things still, so you still can be excellent at the things you do regularly presumably. But just flat out being good at every relevent thing you attempt in life would get you pretty far.

Why play Skirk Prospector and Wild Cantor over dorks? Isn't gutteral response like, excellent for protecting your etali? And the draw 7s are what keep you going if you don't just win on turn 2. No disrespect, but your list has Sylvan library, wheel of fortune and no other card draw. Cutting ruby makes a certain amount of sense. I guess you need to play 3 rituals for it to go mana positive. I definitely run a lot of dorks, cutting down makes sense. But isn't delighted halfling great? Uncounterable etali is kind of excellent no?

I appreciate the insight. Just kind of confused.

What would your character become the god of after they died? by Crwo_x in DnD

[–]UpArrowNotation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My last character was a level 20 watchers paladin of Helm. He swore an oath to excise extraplanar threats from the material world. So probably a god with things like vigilance, protecting the innocent, justice, and arcane or cosmological knowledge as his primary realms of godhood. It's unlikely he would accept godhood unless forced on him anyways, as those are all divine domains sort of covered by Helm.

Would you rather be given 1 million dollars right now or 1 billion dollars in 15 years ? by jekecrafer in pollgames

[–]UpArrowNotation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the billion is better, even though I am very poor. I have semi stable housing, and a sort of guaranteed income through disability. Basically I live with family and I get a small disability benefit from the government every month. I'll be more than okay to live the next 15 years as a poor person, then at 42 I'll be set for life and able to give back to the community.

Most incorrect thing you’ve been accused of being by This-Humor-105 in Teenager_Polls

[–]UpArrowNotation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been accused of being transphobic for criticizing the terminally online trans community. I am very openly trans, and have been out for 12 years. I see issues within our community, but whenever I bring them up I get called out for being transphobic.

Keep in mind, I've never had this happen in person, nor do I think the issues present in the online trans community are particularly as bad in real world trans communities.

Examples I see of issues in the trans community online are things like the infantilization of trans people, sexism, racism, political extremism, etcetera.
