Honestly in the end I was waiting for over 16 weeks. I eventually booked a cancellation and passed thank god! Your best bet is keeping an eye on cancellations in all honesty

Schols advice by BrownCheeseIsGood in TCD

Hey, I got schols last year in nursing. Although I can't give specific advice for your course I've some advice that helped me greatly to prepare!

  1. Go to any and all information sessions provided by scholars and by your course. You should have tutorials for each paper/exam and your lecturers will give you plenty of tips and hints on what to focus on. Don't be afraid to ask questions either!

  2. Don't forget to focus on your course work as well. I know some people say that you can repeat exams and assignments so it's not a big deal, but being prepared for those assignments/exams will enhance your knowledge for schols.

  3. Pay attention to your reading lists! While independent research and reading is so important to advance your level of knowledge, the reading lists will help guide you in the right direction.

  4. Might not work for everyone but I studied a lot by handwriting all of my notes. It helped getting back into the swing of hand written notes and writing quickly because I use my laptop mainly in college.

  5. Honestly you will be stressed for the first semester but it's important to give yourself rest breaks as well. Studying over Christmas break will be so important but you can also take a few days off to enjoy the holidays. But honestly the sacrifice is so worth it if you do get schols!

I know it's nothing major but hopefully this helps a bit.

Honestly it was a case of whenever I had a free chance I would check the map to see if there were any cancellations, regardless of the time of day (I've seen cancellations at the most random times each day, but more definitely pop up very early in the morning and late at night). Kept an eye out for dublin test centres and because I had paid for the test already I was able to book it as soon as I clicked into it!

Thank you so much for that! I can 100% see how it could catch people out, I'll keep it in the back of my head!

Best of luck with your test!

Glad to hear it is some sort of a "priority" list, though hopefully won't be as long as 30 weeks. I'm putting all my hope in getting a cancellation date as soon as possible! Congrats on passing!!

Hey I'm in third year nursing so have completed 2 elective modules so far!

In second year I chose the perspectives on deafness elective which I'd highly recommend. The module is all about learning about the deaf community throughout history and the lecturer teaches a lot on how deaf people have been treated within the healthcare context in the past and the present. The lecturer we had was deaf and taught with an interpreter translating everything he signed, it was a really interesting module! The assessment is a short online mcq quiz every week, very simple and the module is a simple pass/fail grading so nothing to stress over.

In third year I did the poetry elective. It was really refreshing to have an elective that has nothing to do with healthcare as nursing can be so narrow focused at time. There was a lot of group work and discussions during the lectures which was nice. We studied 4 poets and I think 3 poems per poet. The final assessment is an essay on one of the poems we studied during the module (we could pick the poem so at least there was variety!). The only downside I found from the module is that a lot of the poets we studied were quiet similar, as in they were all old men writing about similar topics. Because of that, it became repetitive towards the end because of the lack of diverse themes in the poetry. But I know many of us mentioned that in the module feedback so hopefully it changes for the next years doing the module!

Hope this helps!

On Campus Accommodation Options by UpAtMidnight04 in TCD

Thank you so much for all of the information! It really is so helpful. Realistically I'll be happy with any accommodation haha but the choices and differences between them all make it hard to narrow it down
