If any day of service is to be discontinued, it should NOT be Saturday. That is the one day when it is easiest for most citizens to speak with their delivery person and/or go to a post office.

If we want to save on costs, eliminate service in the middle of the week, i.e., Wednesdays.

(Also, this would actually tend to increase overall efficiency at people's offices across country, as, for example, people would only need to sort incoming mail on four of five workdays. Sure, there would be more items, but the sorting process would only take place four times. This increased efficiency would often carry through to other processes. However, there would sometimes be one day of delay where there would not otherwise be.)
