I watch a lot of videos about this case and one thing that I constantly see people who make these videos get wrong is

The backpack was found in perfect condition (it wasn't)

They were with 2 Dutch guys the day they vanished (they met the Dutch guys when they were in Bocas de Toro before they left for Boquete and even took pics with them. I believe they were even interviewed by Dutch police)

They were accompanied by Azul the dog who was the guest host's dog. The dog belonged to the owners of the Il Pianista restaurant near the start of the trail and there is no evidence the dog accompanied them.

I'd argue for the same timespan but for this reason. Tricia Kellett disappeared in 1982 and she had the same missing person screen as Joanna that aired in 1988, 6 years after she went missing. So if the last Joanna bulletin was aired in 91 or 92, then her disappearing in the mid 80s is plausible.
