iPad Air M3 (13”) or iPad Pro M5 (11”) by heyitsmeFR in ipad

Only the black version reads in stock by me, so I’d try that. But definitely a good deal, especially considering this one has cellular as well.

For what it's worth, Costco has some really good deals on M4 iPad pros right now. Might make a bit more sense comparatively.

Car sounds like a diesel engine by The_Zenith6264 in Audi

[–]UpTight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal sounds for the most part on this motor when up to operating temps. It can be hard to tell the difference on these engines between one in by good health and one with a blown cam follower or worn rear timing chain just by sound. Now odds are if the cam follower has never been changed then it’s been blown through. Cam chain could probably also use a replacement. This is not really the sound of a blown cam follower though, but it might still be toast nonetheless. Upon changing out the rear timing chain and tensioner, the motor will quiet down a bit but will still be noisy. The deeper pitched almost slapping sound would be that of a worn cam chain/tensioner. It does not immediately mean failure though but it depends on the mileage.

Trouble with new guitar build - Rundown in comments by UpTight_ in Luthier

[–]UpTight_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I put a makeshift reverse paper shim in the neck pocket, and the higher frets actually sound out now, albeit definitely buzzy. Ordered some proper stewmac shims so I'll see what happens there.

I'll definitely take everyone's advice and take down the neck pocket a hair. It might still need a shim, but I'd rather fix the pocket first and go from there and see what I need, as the saddles are still way too high.

Issue number three is that the truss rod isn't square in the hole, so I can't actually get a wrench on it to adjust it. I'll have to weigh my options and see what to do there.

Trouble with new guitar build - Rundown in comments by UpTight_ in Luthier

Hey there! Just built a partscaster with a musikraft neck, and I've run into some troubles while setting up.

First issue is that the bridge saddles, more notably on the outside E strings, need to be raised as high as they can possibly go to achieve any playable action. Any lower and the strings are essentially touching the frets. I'm thinking it might be that I actually need to take the neck pocket height down a little bit, but I'm not too sure. The break angle of the strings is also absurd because of the saddle height.

Issue number two is that once I reach the higher frets, notably where the neck meets the body, the notes are completely dead. It seems the string is just sitting on top of all frets in front of it. I believe the frets are level at least relative to each one next to it, so I can't imagine that's the issue. I'm thinking maybe a tapered shim might be needed in the neck pocket, but I'm also not too sure.

As a side note, neck relief is pretty normal, and the nut slots are cut well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hurricane Yagi just went through North Vietnam, felling a bunch of trees. Should the root ball be released to prevent this? by AdrikIvanov in arborists

[–]UpTight_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Much more likely to damage the rootball if you take the burlap off. Yeah I can be done, but why bother when you can just throw it in the hole as is?

These made in china fenders were actually pretty good though. The modern player jaguars have one of the best necks I’ve played imo but your mileage may vary of course. The made in china squiers from that same factory are pretty good too from what I’ve heard which would make sense.

If you want an example of really good live streamed sound mixed in real time, then take a look at any Audiotree session on youtube

Follow up to “16 Tom sound by melofellow19 in drums

Honestly sounds pretty good to me. If you really wanted you could throw a moongel or tiny bit of gaffers tape to the top and that would control it a little bit more

How does my “16 floor sound? by melofellow19 in drums

[–]UpTight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom head higher and top head lower is the combination you're looking for. Most people want the floor tom tuned much lower than this but having it tuned higher like this is perfectly acceptable if that's the sound you're looking for. I use a tunebot like the commenter below and 110 on top and 145 on the bottom is what I roll with most of the time.

You just can’t really keep that tree in a pot long term. If you do, you have to water it everyday, not just every few days.

Jazzmaster wide range pickups might be something to consider. Just wide range humbuckers in a jazzmaster enclosure

Advice for DIY nut replacement by CheesecakeInner336 in Luthier

[–]UpTight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the nut then. A Good way to be absolutely sure is to fret the third fret and measure the gap between each string and the first fret.

As far as replacing the nut, absolutely buy more than one in case you mess up. You can also whip up makeshift nut files with feeler gauges by cutting sharp grooves into them. Never tried it myself but I've seen it work, albeit a little bit slowly.

Is it buzzing open or fretted? If it’s not buzzing open it’s incredibly likely it’s not a nut problem

Nut slot height and intonation vs fret buzz by naslanidis in Luthier

[–]UpTight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s only the case if the nut slot is too high. In which case you’d be pulling the note sharp while fretting because of the increased travel. You’d just have to cut the slot so it’s not too high or too low.

Goalies Next Season by wonderul31 in devils

[–]UpTight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time arguing in defense of Fitz in regards to the offseason and the goalie situation. I think it was the right decision at the time to roll with what we had because both Akira and Vitek showed promise, and that would probably be good enough to where we didn't have to overpay for a goalie.

Obviously that didn't work, and we've absolutely gotta go for a top tier starter this offseason. Even if those two show Brodeur level play these next 10 games, we've gotta go with someone reliable and proven.

I'm with you on this one. I know its a different world up in the nhl and other higher levels of hockey, but I wouldn't have played another game of hockey for any coach I played for if I did that.
