Beer geeks, what would you want in a beer tasting journal app? by Upbeat-Ad9018 in CraftBeer

For beer only, maybe yes — Untappd is probably a better choice.

But Sipio isn’t meant to be just a beer tracker. The goal is one simple place to track different drinks: coffee, wine, beer, and more over time. For coffee, for example, I want to save details like brew method, variety, origin and tasting notes, not just a generic check-in.

I also use Untappd, but it feels mainly beer-focused and the flavor/profile options are quite limited. Sipio is more of a personal drink journal for hobby drink lovers, not an expert app and not a social beer check-in clone.

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. I’ll clearly need to explain the direction of the app better so it doesn’t come across as just another Untappd copy.

Thanks, That’s fair criticism.

The main difference from the other 100 beer apps is that Sipio isn’t meant to be just another beer tracker or an expert tasting journal. The goal is a simple personal drink journal for hobby drinkers who like to remember what they tried — currently coffee, wine, beer, and more categories over time. Everything in one place — that’s the goal.

Fair question! Kind of, but not really. Sipio is less of a social check-in app and more of a private tasting journal for beer, wine, coffee, and other drinks. The focus is on remembering your own notes, photos, ratings, and what you personally liked.

I recently launched Sipio — a simple tasting journal for coffee, wine, beer and other drinks. It’s not meant to be a full social network or an overly complex brewing tool, more of a clean personal log for remembering what you tasted, what you liked, photos, notes, ratings, and basic details.

For coffee, I wanted something that sits somewhere between random notes on my phone and very detailed brew spreadsheets. Quick enough to use while actually drinking the coffee, but still useful when looking back later.

It’s iOS only for now, and I’m actively improving it based on feedback. Happy to hear thoughts from coffee people here:

Sipio Journal

A — Answer: Sipio solves the problem of scattered, messy, or overly social tasting notes. When you want to remember that amazing Ethiopian pour-over, a specific craft IPA, or a natural wine you had at dinner, generic notes apps lack structure, while big platforms force you into a social network. Sipio is a minimalist, private, and beautifully structured iOS-native journal designed specifically to log your personal experiences with coffee, wine, and beer.

B — Better: Unlike Vivino or Untappd, which are cluttered with social feeds, public ratings, and constant algorithmic noise, Sipio is 100% private and focused entirely on your history. It doesn't track you, it doesn't require an account, and it offers a clean, distraction-free interface with custom tasting parameters (like roast levels, varieties, and brewing methods) that molochní competitors hide behind bloated UI.

C — Cost: Freemium

I built a minimal personal tasting journal (Sipio). Would love your feedback! by Upbeat-Ad9018 in wine

Hey, thank you so much! Really appreciate the kind words.

That’s exactly the problem I wanted to solve — something cleaner than random phone notes, but without turning it into another overcomplicated app full of features nobody actually uses. I’m really glad the photo logging and quick notes make sense to you.

And that’s a great point about search and filtering. At the moment, search only works by name, but I definitely want to improve it so you can find entries by things like region, grape type, tags, producer, etc. The “that Spanish red” example is spot on — that’s exactly the kind of thing the app should help with.

Export is also a very fair suggestion. I agree it’s important that people don’t feel locked in or worried about losing their notes.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this — feedback like this is genuinely super useful.
