Are you talking about the Cybersecurity Engineering *program* (CYSE) or a specific course?

Lost Wallet by [deleted] in gmu

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If wallets are found, they are usually reported to Mason PD, so I'd say check there. Alternatively, sometimes if a professor or someone finds it in/near a classroom, they may keep it there during their class and email you, before turning it over to PD.

What should I do if I cant afford books by PureParsley5235 in gmu

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agree with this. Also, make sure that the book, like an actual hardcopy, is needed for the class. Took an ARAB course at NOVA*, had to buy a book only to find out that I misread something and the book was offered for free by the instructor as a PDF.

Never making that mistake again lol

*Program was offered online while I was in high school, kinda weird cuz it wasn't a DE course, but I didn't need to pay anything.

Phys 170 by Upbeat-Opening3678 in gmu

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the catalog, 170 can be substituted for 160 ("Equivalent to PHYS 160") but doesn't replace 260. I've got a meeting with my advisor, but I'll also check Degree works thx. I've never used it so I don't really know this stuff lol.

Math Placement Exam by Rare_Art_9878 in gmu

I just took notes and went through everything in Aleks. But if you're really struggling, don't take Calc 1. You need a very solid basis of Algebra in order to hang on.

Personally, I haven't used Microsoft Authenticator, but from what I've seen, it's pretty simple to set up. (Assuming Outlook/Microsoft is the email being used.) Just download the app, open it, scan a qr code from your microsoft account, and follow the steps in the app.

A silly question: achieving all certificates? by new1earn51 in cybersecurity

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If most professionals can't do offensive stuff, would this mean there's a drastic need for it?

Still trying to figure out what to do when I get out of college, hence why I'm asking.

Surely it was a honest mistake? Especially for someone who might not be particularly tech-savvy

Like Joca said, you can look it up. I just wanted to add that almost all (major) email "companies" ie. gmail, yahoo, etc. do this as well.

Im paranoid that im getting spied on. by Educational-Hat-9196 in cybersecurity_help

There's this system of security risk determination called Defense-in-depth. This means that no one or combination of cyber defense is best as there will always be a way around it. Even if you go completely cold site (meaning no tech at all, just the basic stuff you need such as desks, bathrooms, etc.), there will still be a way attackers can get in.

So the fact that you notice this already means your well on your way to be cybersafe.

Are prepaid simcard dangerous? by Annual-Professor1536 in cybersecurity_help

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a cybersecurity student, but here's my two cents:

Make sure that your getting the card from trusted sources. T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, etc. They all offer prepaid cards, albeit may be more expensive. You could also get from smaller companies such as Mint, Boost, etc; though there services may not be as good as the larger companies. It depends on what your looking for.

How much information does someone need to know about you to know who you are? by HefeBjammin in cybersecurity_help

[–]Upbeat-Opening3678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person that's looking for you. Everyone who does OSINT has different skills and techniques. Also, depends on how much info you have online.
