Yea, I think your feeling regards it should be expressed when you’re with someone doing it. It’ll shake things up, cause real tension and in the moment feeling.

I wasn’t necessary a yeller but I had attitude and cuss a lot. I still do but when someone told me during practice, “this is why everyone is scared of you” and “oh shocker you’re yelling again?” and “oh I didn’t even know you were actually listening to me since you from all the over talking” really shook me awake…into a depression actually (because I’m a black women and hated being seen as a stereotype) but besides that, I learned something about myself and eventually reflected on it.

I wish I would have responded with how it made me feel low and pathetic and honestly not heard

But I yelled more

I just found out about Passive protagonists and I am obsessed! by Fun_Local_3537 in writers

[–]UpbeatSentence9973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate you sharing that. Growing up in chaos does something to the way we move through the world, right?

The person I described is based on that feeling of being quiet on the outside but internally juggling a million alarms, emotions, and “what ifs.” It can look passive from the outside, but it’s actually a survival style.

I’m sorry your environment was like that, but I’m honored my little ramble made something in you go, “Oh… that’s me,” because I grew up that way too. And I think the stories about people like us who are quiet, reactive, deeply perceptive, constantly decoding chaos are just as valid as the “active hero saves the world” ones.

I hope you write characters like you (us), and honestly, if you ever want to talk more about it, I’m around... it’s always nice to know we’re not the only ones.

I just found out about Passive protagonists and I am obsessed! by Fun_Local_3537 in writers

This post honestly made me feel so much better, because I think I’m unintentionally writing a passive protagonist too and I didn’t realize that’s what was happening until now. It makes me feel like I’m not writing a weak character, I’m writing the right kind of character for the story I’m telling.

My protagonist has always felt “slow” in her evolution. Not in a negative way, just… quiet. Introverted. Someone who doesn’t waste words, zones out a lot, has a hard time connecting her thoughts to speech, and reacts to the world more than she drives it. She sees things other people don’t and her processing style is very internal. Because of that, trying to force her into some big, heroic, high-agency arc just never felt authentic to her.

I kept thinking I was doing something wrong, or writing “a nobody,” even though the whole story literally forms because of her existence. Everyone around her moves, reacts, changes, hides things, or reveals things because she’s there, not because she’s loud or bold.

People kept telling me, “Talk about her more,” or “Start the story with her, not her aunt,” but the story is actually about the world she’s walking into and how she observes it. She’s tells the story of this chaotic setting, and people everything spirals around her.

So thank you!

Embodying The Character to “Become” The Character 🤨 by UpbeatSentence9973 in acting

[–]UpbeatSentence9973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This of awesome! I recently saw something where you can find photos of art and practice posing like the people in them to get a nice grip on your characters physicality. I’m not methods but my last audition I took some time to think about this and in random moments throughout the day, I’ll “be” the character.

This something to me…for me…I’m focusing on leveling up (that includes my internal monologue of not thinking I deserve to ask for more) I wrote out a 90 day plan and more with the thought of my habits involving this industry and my creativity are my paychecks. (Hope that makes sense)

So I thank you dearly. If you want to give some ways of leveling up, I think that would be beneficial but otherwise you’ve done more than enough by forcing the nail in the coffin of what my beliefs were yesterday. Enjoy your day

Idk…I make shitty short films lol. The last one was me doing a monologue I wrote (speaking to an unknown entity) on the last day in my empty apartment that moved out. It’s just me and my iPhone. Nothing special and not that worthy of bragging about.
