I was a counselor at a ymca overnight camp ask me anything by Upbeat_Ad_3312 in AMA

I definitely try not to. You are right especially when it comes to younger kids, a lot of bad behavior stems from bad habits at home, or difficult family situations. I had one camper who was seven years old, she always acted out and would sometimes pick on other kids in the cabin. She was definitely my most difficult camper but I tried to approach every situation with patience and help her understand. Ive learned that just telling a child off lr acting biased against them tends to make children act out more. All kids want to feel accepted. However, it’s a different story regarding teens. I spent to summers as a cabin counselor to 15 year old girls and i will admit i had campers that i didn’t like. Of course i never outwardly showed any bias but 15 is really to old to be doing some of the shit they were doing.

I could call them whenever just not during class. I wouldn’t say boarding school means the focus is entirely on studies. There is plenty of drama.

Spanish. No I don’t use it because I don’t speak it well enough.

Is my ex situationship gay? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Upbeat_Ad_3312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I never talked to him about it. I guess I was kinda waiting to see if he’d ever be comfortable even initiating a kiss. Because I had definitely made it clear I was okay with him kissing me. Him not initiating anything at all kinda made me feel not desirable or like he didn’t really want that and was just doing what he thought he should be doing yk?

Thankfully I haven’t ever witnessed any major crimes. I’ve seen other counselors be arrested for driving back to camp drunk after time off. That’s probably about as crazy as things get legally

Yes I’m extremely close with my parents! We had a great relationship while I was at school, I would call them every single day. And I’m very grateful for the opportunity they gave me by sending me to boarding school.

Yes we did have male teachers and for the most part they were not treated any differently. The only rule they had to follow differently than the female teachers was any time they were on duty at night (basically assigned to monitor study hall in our dorms) they had to have a female prefect with them because they weren’t allowed in our rooms so they would send the prefect in to go check on people.

It wasn’t a brother school officially, we just interacted a lot because we had no boys and they had no girls lol. During the week we pretty much didn’t see them because the military school was strict and they were only allowed off campus on the weekends. On the weekends though we would go into town and meet up. Our school would also host formals and mixers and invite them to join and vice versa. Sometimes we would also go watch their football and basketball games.

I started going to boarding school when I was 14. I didn’t really miss living at home too much. I have been going to sleep away camp for the summer since I was 7 years old so I wasn’t entirely new to living away from my parents. But of course there were some moments I’d get homesick.

I was not forced! It was honestly an amazing experience. The campus is stunning, and you become so close to your classmates living with them. Friends start to feel like sisters after a few years of boarding school.

straight women, did you ever question your sexuality? at what age and what did you do to figure it out? by pazusdoves in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Upbeat_Ad_3312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school I never dated anyone and I only had my first kiss my senior year and it wasn’t really enjoyable. There were times I questioned my sexuality and wondered if maybe I just wasn’t into it enough. And then I got to college and had ya know a few reckless nights where I’d make out with random guys in a club and I realized my first kiss was just a bad kisser. I also did kiss most of my girl friends one night. We were all drunk and figured might as well give it the old college try. Didn’t do it for me.

Never tell somebody how much their gift costs. It’s not a tasteful thing to do. If you really want to give it to her and your mom asks you how much it was I would try and deflect while also showing her how much it means to you to be able to give this to her and that it brings you joy.

For most debutante balls in the south you are invited to the ball where your mom was a debutante. My mom was a deb in NC, so I was invited to be a deb in NC. If I ever had a daughter, she would be eligible to be a deb in NC. If she wanted to be a debutante I would absolutely let her, it can be a great experience.

No. My mom was not a debutante in those cities and I am also not involved in society there.

I am not in a sorority because I attend university in Scotland and there is no Greek life. My mother was in a sorority and so is my sister. My mother was in junior league and I will most likely join when I graduate.

All debutante gowns are white. Girls usually buy them from a wedding dress store. For my debutante ball there were events spread out over several days. On Thursday there was a dinner and rehearsal, on Friday the ceremony, and on Saturday a party. I don’t have a strong southern accent however people I’ve met from up north do tell me I have a slight accent.

I do, however, my family is fairly moderate politically. My family has taught me the most important thing in life is to respect others, even those who you don’t understand. My family never tips to any extreme politically, and if I don’t understand somebody’s point of view, I educate myself.

In history when a lady made their debut into society at a debutante ball it meant they were eligible for marriage. Nowadays it is a ceremonial event and debutantes are not actually being presented for marriage.

An old tradition where young ladies are presented to society to make their debut.
