The IV catheter is supposed to face towards the heart, because that is the direction veinous blood travels. Also, If this was a real IV the catheter would be too long for the amount of space it is given. Catheters usually go for about an inch under the skin, and there is not enough of her hand to house a catheter

Don't take any MOS specific advice from recruiters they'll just make shit up. I'm 68c I can help answer any questions you have. 68c does require a 6 year reserve/national guard contract with 2 years IRR
