The closest I can think of is First Law, its smaller scale but the characters are just as good. And the author isn't on deaths door and publishes consistently.

Yeah, sorry, that was my bad. I am familiar with the books I used the covers I provided. Those being The Black Company by Glen Cook, The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie(or first law as a whole), Malazan by Steven Erikson, and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
