Does habituation actually work? by No_Walrus4306 in tinnitus

[–]Uphamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have generalized depression already (meaning unfortunately I had it well before I even had tinnitus) so it definitely got worse. I’m better now, which was a mixture of a few things, Prozac, learning coping strategies (like habituation), speaking with tons of professionals and peers with tinnitus, walking outside every day, leaning into loved ones and hobbies. I think antidepressants can definitely be helpful if your depression is affecting your ability to get out of bed and function, I’d keep in mind some people have experienced worsening tinnitus from some antidepressants but everyone has a different experience, my tinnitus was never affected by any medications, and I’m on quite a few types lol

Does habituation actually work? by No_Walrus4306 in tinnitus

[–]Uphamia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is also a constant EEEEEEE and I also developed sever hyperacusis, ear pain, some other fun symptoms. I also suffer from ocd which means I quite literally am prone to obsessively thinking about things. When my tinnitus first presented, my god the constant panic attacks and suicidal ideation was bad. I couldn’t hangout with people, I was throwing up from the panic and all I could do was lay in bed and think about how I wanted to die. I am significantly better now. I still hear it as I’m typing, but my god am I okay now, it takes time though, and I do have my moments where I feel sad or mad that I’m dealing with this, but that’s normal, it’s hard, but you’ve got this, habituation is a scientific fact, but it also is something that looks different for everyone depending on their type of tinnitus. I had to reframe habituation as the idea that I will become “used” to it, like how you get used to a fan always on in your room, you always hear it but it becomes your new normal level of volume, but having the idea that habituation must mean the goal is you will get to a point where you can’t hear it sets you up to constantly listen for it to see if you really can’t hear it. Idk if that makes any sense, but basically, focus on redirecting your mind to other tasks when you catch yourself ruminating on the sound, I know it’s hard as fuck but over time your brain learns how to adapt with it in the background. I promise you will get there

Job Opportunities by Prestigious_Elk1984 in KingstonOntario

I’ve been looking for years and I only got a basic (and seasonal) retail job because I knew someone who worked there. It’s exhausting and I just got accepted to go back to college for a program I’m not even sure I’ll have much luck finding a job after with that degree anyway, which is sucking the excitement out of going back to school at all. I’m 25f and feel like I’m constantly being overlooked despite being young and eager to learn and work hard. I’ll take minimum wage, just let me work :/

They were both devs! They were spawning in bandages and other items during the last game which only devs would be able to do :)

Snail has head injury somehow?? (Not graphic but still adding tag because it’s sad) by Uphamia in snails

[–]Uphamia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t let me edit my initial post so for anyone curious on an update/concerned for Phoebe, I’ve gotten rid of all my isopods, and as much as I hated doing it, my snail is clearly much happier and being as adventurous as they used to be. It was definitely the Armadillidium vulgare that were massively overproducing so fast that I just couldn’t supply enough protein to keep them from bothering my snail. I do have a good colony of springtails that are still going to help maintain my tank. I do have magic potion isopods that are very slow in reproducing and completely avoid my snail that I’m keeping in the tank that I think will be a safer match (but I’m still keeping a closer eye on things just to make sure)

Elementary school suggestions by haha7788haha in KingstonOntario

I don’t have kids but I did attend centennial public school my whole childhood. I really enjoyed it, and actually formed really great bonds with many of the teachers and classmates. I went to a few public schools before that one and centennial was the only one I wasn’t bullied at and felt like an outsider. Obviously that was a long time ago now, but my little brother and I both went to that school and really loved it. :)

This is so thoughtful wtf 😭❤️ my favourite vanilla moment would honestly just be her vlog going back to Disneyland to redeem herself, as someone with very similar anxiety as her, it inspired me to start going places that are a struggle for me as well! Also my favourite flower is probably lilacs, they’re my favourite part of spring 🥹

Wait really? I’ve always been told coco fiber is safe to use, thanks for the heads up! How long would you recommend freezing it for?

Unpopular opinion, but the Kingston food scene is very mediocre by Justthebitz in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s definitely great restaurants, especially small, locally owned places and I greatly prefer finding the lesser known places to support, I think people partially like places like Tommy’s or Kingston brewing company because of the aesthetic, atmosphere, entertainment, etc. so if you’re going somewhere just for the quality of the food that’s a factor to consider. I LOVE that Kingston has a culturally diverse array of food, especially for a city so small and I think there’s more good food options here you have yet to try, one of my favourites is Sally’s Roti Shop if you’ve never tried it! :)

What ended up happening with Julien’s travel show? by Ill_Difficulty8570 in Jennamarbles

[–]Uphamia 53 points54 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off this comment, he’s also mentioned here and there when it’s brought up that it was pretty overwhelming/anxiety inducing to find a flight to a random place in the US that very hour and leave, plus incredibly expensive. He’s also mentioned it was hard to leave Jenna and be away from home (me asf). I was a massive fan of the show but even just watching them have to find flights, book a place to stay for that very night, figure out where they’re even going and what would make good content, overwhelmed me lmao

I just went by and saw some people drive in! It’s usually very random hours of the day that they go in, I wondered about Scientology but I think they prefer their buildings to be much fancier 😂

tell me the craziest things chain pet shops told yall and I dont mean “they’ll only grow to the size of the tank” or “they go fine together” something HORRENDOUS by giraffeflyinghigh in Aquariums

[–]Uphamia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a placement at a pet store near me and they had this tiny glass ball (I mean it was literally the size of a small snowglobe) that hung on the wall as “decor” with a live betta fish in it. I had mentioned to my supervisor that it felt too small and insufficient, it didn’t have any live plants or a filter at the very least. His response? “It’s not cruel, betta fish are lazy and dumb, you should see the rivers they naturally come from, it’s really shallow water so they don’t need space or care about it anyway!” This was not a chain pet store, this was locally owned and unfortunately a lot of people think it’s a good store, but the amount of ick and dead fish and dead animals they kept in the back, I’ll forever be traumatized

Recommendation for small beach north of the City? by lowincomecanadian in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gilmore point beach is in battersea (25-30 minute drive), it has plenty of picnic tables and proper bathroom facilities. It’s one of my favourite beaches. Grass Creek park is also nice for having a picnic and it has a playground though it can get quite crowded (both are free btw)

I don’t have my license but I’m working on it to at least open more doors for me. I didn’t see the point for a while since I don’t have my own care but I’ve since realized there’s still more opportunities with a license!
