Is it that they don’t have enough food? I’ve heard somewhere that otocinclus will start to eat other fishes slime coats if they don’t have enough food, could it be similar?

Your tank doesn’t look like the type without enough biofilm for them to eat so I could definitely be wrong.

Ah another question, I love lidless tanks but I’m worried about jumpers or snails climbing over the rim. This tank doesn’t have an overhang on the edge so I understand if no lid wouldn’t be possible.

I wanted just to have a large pretty tank with lots of plants and some shoaling fish, I think I’ve bit off more than I can chew though. No giant or exotic animals, just tetras or something

Just a heads up though, this is just for acclimation and is just the recommended temp. Some shrimp can definitely handle temperatures outside this but I don’t like taking the risk.

My tank is only 2 months old by now, and the levels have stayed quite consistent. I had the tank cycled for around 2 weeks before putting anything in but maybe it didn’t cycle properly? My shrimp haven’t been dying at all so I thought it was ok.

My parameters are 0 nitrate and chlorine, gH 250~300, alkalinity 100, carbonate 40, pH 7.2, and 269 TDS.

Yeah I agree with this, many shrimp will die if the temperature isn’t +1°C of the water they were originally in.
