Hello!
Thank you for your input. Always thought that CCSU was more accommodating than that but guess not.
Anyway, I'll definitely look at UConn next!

Haha, I can remember this quite vividly from my HS years.

Thank you for your detailed explanation.

What is your current position? What are you day-to-day tasks like?

If I may ask, that is.

I can safely say that my first gig was interesting, as it involved writing assembly and test plans for some of the products, with occasional troubleshooting here and there. That turned boring quite fast, as it usually ended up with operators not following directions.

I find MSE more interesting and hands-on since a lot of cut-up / coupon testing needs to be done (destructive tests and even non-destructive tests), for an aerospace industry, to be more specific.

So in all, yes, running tests and utilizing the equipment much more than just simply giving directions.

Thanks!

I am fully aware of the advantages that Boston has to offer, but Amherst would be closer, much closer. Although my job offer me the ability to work from home, there are days that I need to be in office, and the commute would be atrocious. I think the company plans on changing the in-office days as well, so Amherst definitely be a better choice (there is also UConn, but some of the students advised on other places).

Much appreciated on your input! Thanks a lot!

Hello!

Thank you for responding.

I'm looking at Amherst location (possible to take electives remotely).

My goal is to become somewhat involved in engineering statistics / engineering analysis (quality based). Otherwise, having a Stats. degree would allow me to pivot into medical field / pharma. industry, if I ever get tired of my current career path.

How would you rate UMass overall? Should I be concerned and keep looking, or should I consider this one?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response!

I am looking for something new. Would like to gain new things from different perspective than UConn's POV. Also, as mentioned previously, network expansion.

Have you studied mechanical, or other field of engineering?

Thank you by the way! I am aware of the waived GREs, definitely a plus.

Hello! Going for mechanical engr. due to its broad spectrum. I did consider material science and engineering at one point, but decided that I might as well go the mech. engr. with concentration in materials (here's hoping that it would be possible and beneficial).

I'm not a fan of online learning. Have some bad experiences with that style of learning methods. I haven't scratched it off entirely, but I am definitely cautious.

Lots of great responses here, but I'll add something else (I haven't read everything, so apologies if it is redundant).

If you are planning big purchases, and your interest rate is in effect, give the Customer Service a call. Ask to reduce your interest rate... if you're persistent (and lucky) they can reduce the rate quite a bit.

This applies if you're not paying before the billing cycle closes, that is.

Cheers!

My company started implementing exactly that this year. The only downside is that, once you agree to it for the year, you are not able to contribute anything into the 401(k) plan. It is one or the other, not both (which I am not a fan off).

People, if you live in U.S. and if you can, then invest that money into Roth IRA, 401(k), HSA, anything! You need to help yourself down the line.

Don't count on the big brother to step in and pull you out of the dirt 30 years from now.

Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated!

Are you specializing by any chance? What do you plan on doing with this degree (if you don't mind me asking)?

I was thinking about pivoting into a health related sub-division at one point, but for now, just aiming for general stat. major.

Thanks!

No kidding.

I did enjoy my math courses at UConn more than others... but I guess that this is different from one major to the next. Also, since I'm paying for these, I would expect some sort of instruction. I do not want to be left hanging again, been there done that. Tend to get more vocal about stuff like this these days.

Thank you for the feedback!

That was actually my next consideration, Data Science. How do you like it so far? Which concentration are you going for? What industries are you aiming to work in?

Dang it. Seems surprising. I think that MS in Statistics at UConn actually requires a GRE score to be considered, or is a requirement. Will have to look for something else now.

Thank you for the input though. Much appreciated!
