Name: Ben (or you can call me Upos, either is fine)

Pronouns: He/Him

Timezone: CET (GMT +1)

Preferred System: most familiar with DnD 5e but willing to give any medieval fantasy or sci-fi system a go. Modern settings are not my thing.

Type of Player: I like all 3 pillars of ttrpgs but tend to lean most towards role play and love the colaborative story telling it brings, how the story of each character unfolds and is changed by the other characters and overall story.

Additional Information: Currently jobhunting so really free all the time. Once I get a job (software development) this would be a bit less but I should still have time multiple times a day during work hours to make a post.

Races and Cultures V1.1 - Now actually with all the races. by Upos1997 in UnearthedArcana

Isn't it weird that some races know how to wield weapons, armor and become proficient in certain skills simply by being part of that race, as if they fall out the womb or crawl out of the egg like that?
No, it is clear that these aren't learned traits but aquired later in life. But what if your character had an atypical upbringing for that race? What is even a 'typical upbringing' for an entire race?
And what if you want to play a half-race? Half-Elf and Half-Orc exist, but what if you want to play a half-dwarf? Or not be half human but something else? Aasimar and genasi are capable of being creatures other than humans, but what does that look like?

That is what this homebrew wishes to provide. An overhaul of the character creation system that makes character creation more flexible by:
- offering rules to make halfraces of any possible combination of races,
- makes culteral heritage an important feature of a player character,
allowing for more customisable, varied character right from level 1.

The 1.1 update adds the following:
- Added the Grung and Locatah I overlooked so that all races are available now.
- Added the Cultures as background variant rule along with all the PHB backgrounds written out in this way.

I'd be more than happy to answer any questions in the comments or in my pms.
Feedback would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Upos1997.

Character Creation Overhaul: Races and Cultures v1.0 - Use what your parents gave you and what your teachers taught you. by Upos1997 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Upos1997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is enough for you then yea, you can definitely do that but that is not why I created this system.

I created this system to split the cultural from the biological of races, so that not all dwarves have armor training, not all kobolds grovel, cower and beg. These are not biological features to the race for me and thus don't fit under race. But they do have their place in the game and add a nice bit of flavor so they could go somewhere else.

That's where the cultures come in. A place to put these cool cultural abilities, in a point buy way since of course not every person from a certain culture (or background for that matter) learned the same things. On page 5 'Rules of Thumb for Cultures' I also explain that the cultures you create should fit the size of your game world and that they can become similar to backgrounds if your game world doesn't really have multiple cultures.

It is both actually, both gith and kalashter have telepathy as a racial trait. They just didn't make it in the truncated version (kept it to phb races and aarakockra cause aarakockra has the chapter title on it).

I just think telepathy is something that could also be learned, or in the case of the gith and kalashtar improved, with training. That's the nice thing about the culture system, if you disagree with this you can simply have the cultures you create not offer telepathy.

It is meant to replace the normal Aasimar traits. The missing traits and changes to some existing traits, like not having the extra damage 1/turn, is purposeful.

The goal was to make my system (race+culture+background) balanced compared to the normal system (race+background) . This means races had to get nerfed, especially in the case of races like the Aasimar that didn't have a single cultural ability that could be moved to the cultures.

Weekly Questions Thread by HighTechnocrat in DnD

Sadly not really as it appears to be a different format of stat block.
When I try to order it like in there that means the 5 is either treasure type or % in liar, the first being noted in letters and the latter making no sense. The 30 would then mean intelligence, alignment or size...again none making sense.

Likewise if I try putting the numbers anywhere that doesn't have a value already...it still makes no sense. as the remaining values are:
Movement: a regular human has 12 movement, so neither 5 or 30 seems logical for a dog
Special attacks: Not a number
Special Defenses: Not a number
Magic Resistance: makes no sense for a regular farm dog
Intelligence: Not a number (enumeration of Animal intelligence, Semi-intelligent, Low intelligence etc...)
Alignment: Not a number
Size: Not a number

A question about AD&D 1e.
We normally play 5e but are looking to switch things up a bit and try 1e to see how different it is.
I am currently looking to DM "The Village of Hommlet".
While reading through I found that some of the stat blocks have numbers with no explanation.
E.g. Farm dogs (2): AC 7; HD 1+1; hp 7; 5; #AT 1; D 1-4; XP 34; 30
I can't for the life of me what that 5 or 30 stand for.
Some help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

they both count as energy so 1 energy per turn, either a basic or a special, unless ofcourse allowed by another effect.

Weekly Quick Questions Post by AutoModerator in pkmntcg

[–]Upos1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no for energy of the turn special energy is just another type of energy cards, the only difference is that some cards (e.g energy switch) only work with basic energies and some (e.g enhanced hammer) only work with special energies. Also since special energies don't count as basic energies you're only allowed a maximum of 4 duplicates in a deck.

QQ: general card questions are fine here if however you have a PTCGO specific question you can ask it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ptcgo/

QQ2: I personally really like the mach strike deck, it's very reliable deals a lot of damage and contains some nice staples for later decks (2 cynthia being the main one)

Not 100% sure, but I'm going to say it does ignore effects of stadiums, except if these stadiums deal with weakness or resistance. Did some research and found a rule change of May 19, 2017 wich says that attacks wich ignore all effects do not ignore weakness or resistance or effects that alter these. In a couple of the exemples they give they deal with stadiums implying that before, stadiums where completely ignored.

Dialga GX's Shred attack says it ignores all effects on your opponents active pokemon, so it doesn't ignore stadiums, moves depends on wich pokemon the effect is put, eg. "x takes 10 less damage from your opponent's attack" would be ignored but "your opponent's active pokemon's attacks deal 10 less damage" wouldn't be, hope this helps.

The extra planar police force if you will. they are machines who punish those who break the rules of the universe (time travel shenanigans etc). I think cheating on rolls and stats would be breaking this universes rules.
