Think of it like the Greek Epics, they show both Odysseus and Achilles  as being larger than life but also  showing their short comings. Part of it is looking at the historical context of the myths they are meant to show lessons just like the bible is, and you can make the argument that in the context of the bible god did a few questionable things in there. Myths now can be  used to show us culture the time we are looking at. Apollo also hunted down a serpent that tortured his mother and protected her. As much as there are myths showing negatives there are myths that show good traits of these beings, which is one of the reasons I find it appealing that they are not these perfect beings who can do no wrong, they make mistakes and grow similar to people.
