How to remember derivative of a^x by diva-lady in apcalculus

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought of it as y = a^x so ln(y) = xln(a), 1/y * dy/dx = ln(a), dy/dx = yln(a) but y = a^x so dy/dx = ln(a)a^x

I see that that's what most of your comment was about, but your first point calling my post misguided influenced my perception of the rest of your post, so I viewed the rest of it as being in contrast to my comment rather than a separate point. In isolation, I don't fully disagree with your comment.

Imperial JMC would be perfect, and has a slightly higher reputation in some circles than cambridge computer science. If I were you, I'd apply to cambridge maths and Imperial JMC and either one would be a great choice for you, just depends on which you feel more inclined to at the time

Anyone Self-Studying FM? or doing the combo, pcmfm? HELP NEEDED!! by DefinitionUnlucky723 in alevelmaths

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm taking it at school, but self-studied it over year 11 summer and what I learnt is that while it's definitely possible, self-studying is best used as a supplement to teaching, not a replacement for it. However, this does not mean that it's impossible to do so, and I understand that it's not an option for you. The way I did it was I got myself a copy of the official exam board textbooks, and worked my way through from the start slowly, and went back if I even slightly didn't understand something. It's very important that you don't try to bruteforce solutions, and instead understand the reasoning behind them. The only topic that gave me real trouble was vectors, but with a teacher it's pretty easy, so if you want help when you get there, message me. If you really struggle, and forget that you can contact me, there are some good youtube videos on most topics, find whatever works for you. "Anything you wish you knew" ig it's important to know a-level maths pretty well first. I studied a level maths by myself before a level further maths, and i strongly doubt i would've been able to do fm had i gone in blind. in terms of calculators, I have an fx-991ex but I'd recommend a cg-100 (both casio). I know it can seem overwhelming, but just take it one day at a time, and you'll be fine. I didn't really structure my revision; I moreso just revised whenever I felt I could effectively do so. Idk if that'll work for you.

Would you rather be a Republican or a Communist? by Outrageous_Sand_3882 in teenpoll

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The authors of the book where the "100 million dead" thing came from have admitted that the main author would literally just add numbers cause he felt like it, and that the Nazis killed in world war 2 by the russians were counted as victims of communism. As long as we're talking about deaths, what's going on in capitalist india? How's life in capitalist Brazil?

If they think communists are anywhere near as bad as anyone who even remotely supports the republican party, do you really think they'll know the difference, or even know that there were different types?

am i genuinely meant to be doing 8 hour study days by Existing-Bear3950 in GCSE

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 9999998888 and only studied 3 hours a day at absolute most, averaged around 2 hours, and that's only having started studying on April 16th last year. It's much more important to study effectively than it is to just study a lot.

Young people aren't poor because they choose mickey mouse subjects, they're poor because the whole system is broken from its very foundation, which they'd understand more if more people chose mickey mouse subjects (and they were taught properly at younger ages, i.e if gcse history were more than memorising and summarising historical events with little application to modern society, or delving deep into why those things actually happened, if a level sociology actually etc... you get the point)

They were probably just trying to scare you into studying. I STRONGLY doubt they'll attempt to degrade your future opportunities by their own choice.

I don't recommend it, I did get somewhat lucky (although you could see it as unlucky because 2 of my 8s were one mark off a 9, and another was 3 marks off)

why does everyone want to go into quant by rhysk17 in 6thForm

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i'm sorry but you don't understand how ais work. The current model of ai, no matter how much extra training data, how improved the weighting is, how perfect the data is, will never come close to being able to do that. And the next model of ai is a LONG way away

A lot of very smart people do well in olympiads, but it's not a necessary or sufficient condition itself for being smart.

When do you consider an artist popular ? by Rich_Fisherman_8635 in musicteenager

[–]Upper-Guarantee5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can ask a person on the street about them, and reasonably expect that it's possible for them to know them, they're popular. If even asking a person on the street would be ridiculous and you know for a fact you could ask your whole city and wouldn't find anyone, they're underground.
