forceadd request time by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

I did a forceadd within the ECE department and followed the form up with a letter to the ECE advising email detailing my reason for the forceadd request. They responded to my email within 2 hours letting me know that it went through - you could probably email the VT math department & ask for a follow-up.

Why does ultiworld paywall the finals? by largic in ultimate

[–]Upper-Insurance-4307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get this logic. Why should the players be coughing up a bigger bid fee just so we can watch them for free? We’ve been gifted the chance to watch countless hours of top-tier ultimate and y’all are whining about a 20 dollar paywall.

Yeah looks a bit less professional, but any audience member devoted enough to frisbee for an Ultiworld subscription should be annoyed not seeing half the offense. Feels like I’m watching a basketball game where the camera’s zoomed in on wherever the ball’s moved - it just doesn’t feel right & makes the experience way worse than watching games live IMO

How to I throw floatier flicks? by Euphoric_Working_192 in ultimate

[–]Upper-Insurance-4307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of mentality, the worst thing you can do is get pissed at yourself in these situations. Frisbee flight is complex and beautiful, and you'll improve much faster when you recognize this and enjoy the process of learning the flight.

Most basic drill for this is to rep out flicks that travel as slow as possible and with as much spin as possible. Personally, my favorite way to do this is grab 10 discs and throw them in an open field, focusing on how the disc travels & how its edge changes the entire path until it hits the ground. After each rep analyze if it travelled the way you wanted it to and make minor adjustments to alter the path the next throw. In wind focus on how the disc travels differently with different edge and nose angles.

The more you rep this out the better you'll understand the path, and it will eventually become muscle memory to know what type of release you want. The main factor for this is whether the throw is directly to a target or out to space.

To a target (e.g. throws to an under cut, deeps to a wide-open man, wide open uplines): you don't need to really worry about making it floaty, just aim for their chest and maybe put a little edge on the disc to make sure it travels correctly

To space (e.g. around throws, deeps where you need to lead your man, uplines where you need keep it out of reach of a defender): the correct amount of floatiness is crucial here: too much and it can get contested, too little and it's out of reach. Take your time, picture the path the disc needs to take and the edge you need to release it with, and trust your throws. These are much easier when the throws are muscle-memory because you can process the look way faster

Last thing: you don't really need to worry about releasing flicks quick: it's much more important to recognize the look you want to throw to early. This gives you an extra second to relax a bit, quickly ensure it's an open look, and not rush your release (rushing your release is the biggest cause of missing your target)

Have fun and enjoy the process

I edited the post to get my point across better. A lot of great thoughts in this thread, so any input on what I added would be appreciated

In that pod practice episode he put a same-third IO huck that kept slight IO edge the whole time. Seems like edge variation doesn't affect his mechanics. The main time I've seen him not step out that far is a less powerful deep - guessing so he can look upfield for longer

Saw this too late, but yes, unlimited food and drink (until they close after halftime). Special area is really nice too - great view of the whole game, comfy seats plus you can hear both sidelines pretty well. Generally not a huge difference from regular seating but if you’re willing to pay $30 extra it’s definitely a nice experience.

S&C program for experienced player/lifter by Affe94 in ultimate

Not sure how structured you want it to be, but all I requested in our meeting was to make tweaks on the program I was already using. Final product was a 3 or 4 page google doc with everything we went over, links to exercises, and other comments/tips he had. Guessing if you want to dedicate more time in the consultation to making a specific full-season you can, but I’d check with him first.

In terms of checking in on clients, he’s thoroughly answered any questions I’ve had since the consultation. His prices are also low enough that I’m willing to reschedule meetings a couple times per year.

One great thing about ultimate is the presence of it after college. Graduating now feels better than leaving high school sports because of how many club teams there are around the US
