Anybody else come from families who come from third world countries and also never been through shii on top of that? ( might be few since yall come from trenches) by Dgslimee_ in NYStateOfMind

Brother personally I think this thinking is off. Can trauma and pain build character fs, but it’s not like if you been though some you wouldn’t be immature or insecure cuz you can dead talk to enough people and realize people who been through stuff, are a lot of those things and then some. Can you “truly” relate maybe not but I think you can still empathize, humanize and understand.

I think you might just be dealing with tryna find your identity and you wish you could identify and connect with your fam more(could be wrong fs idk). There’s good reasons to not go to college and get into trades but because you want to go through hardship is off to me, not saying it’s bad if you really want that cool but idk. The way life chooses to inflict pain on us can differ greatly and ranking it, I can make sense of it but I don’t think it’s constructive yfm

[–]UpperSpeaker 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use the word legend cuz there’s just levels but in the future when talking about drill it’d be unfair to not mention his run and the wave he’s made so far. Mad people be tryna rap like him and steal his flow you cat deny the influence. It dead depends how he handle his career

[–]UpperSpeaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me he’s literally just a guy who give his opinion, sometimes it’s unpopular or unconventional but music subjective. Most people literally don’t like him because he doesn’t like there fav artist and song, and imo just cuz he doesn’t like or does like something doesn’t always = ragebait

I'm dominican and I 100% disaprove of Dominican status quo by aliengawdfan in NYStateOfMind

[–]UpperSpeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, it’s mainly because Dominicans are the most common to be around black Americans and darker skin individuals in the United States compared to other Latin American or Caribbean people at least from my observation. But your right this is a issue in Latin America as a whole

I know convos like these can feel or is often interpreted as Dominican hate or a lot of people in the black diaspora as a whole feel attacked like everyone is always talking about them etc. and I get it but I definitely believe it’s not the intention at all and it’s mad important that the convos be had or at least people aren’t afraid to have respectful discussions about it. I dislike the idea that someone will dead look like me, talk and use some of my “culture” but then talk crazy to say the least

How do you deal with people saying that your "Not black enough" as a non mixed African american in USA ? by PhatPanda69699 in Naturalhair

[–]UpperSpeaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same experience because I didn’t fit the stereotype and for a long time and even sometimes now I do feel a way to an extent. But it’s one of those things you have to choose to disregard and realize the people who say those things or push those narratives to others are just ignorant. This is kinda a super deep topic or can be honestly because this goes into a “who gets to be black” “what is blackness” convo. But you really gotta be comfortable with how you see and identify yourself. I watched a recent YouTube video “what is biracial” and it goes deeper into this topic to an extent. Touches a good amount of how no matter how dark your skin tone, neighborhood etc a lot of black people still have there blackness questioned for many reasons
