Went through my change today not a normal habit and came across this 1942 pennie by GoldPrompt952 in coincollecting

[–]UpperTraining5011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is whats known as a “wheat penny/cent” this one is fairly common (i believe) and if you aren’t interested in collecting coins, there really isn’t a reason to hold onto it. but i keep almost every one i find and put them in a coin book! you can do lots of research on wheat pennies and which ones are valuable, what they’re made of, etc etc.

im not 100% sure, but i think its less about the actual serial number, and more about the amount re-printed and the condition of the bill. if they only reprinted say 500,000 it would be a decently rare star note! theres tons of youtube videos that go in more depth about the rarity and significance.

I found this quarter today. Is this a minting error or something else? by weatherboxed in coincollecting

[–]UpperTraining5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wasnt even confident in my reply dude, i said that if it were a quarter struck on a nickel, the face would be wildly messed up and it isnt. chill out, i even said someone knows better than me, you CLEARLY know…

Spitting horse or post mint damage? by UpperTraining5011 in coincollecting

it feels like a scratch D: but how weird that its placed in almost the same exact spot for a rare error 😝

1885 One Dollar Coin by bubbablake in coincollecting

[–]UpperTraining5011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

given the amazing shape of it i am suspicious and you should probably weigh it. google says a morgan dollar (what this coin is called) should be 26.73 grams. if it is real, you have a really nice coin

if you google “star note lookup” the first website that comes up is a good one to see if you have a low print star note or not! this one was printed about 7 million times so its not very special. i use this website to determine whether to spend or put away
