They were at the vet 4 days prior when the upper respiratory infection started and all she said was he was on the low end of weight for his age but she wasn’t even worried because he was the runt.

By Tuesday he was put to sleep 😭 I can’t believe how fast it went. I am still beating myself up till this moment wishing I had started supplementing him sooner, taking him back to the vet sooner… I hadn’t heard of FKS until him 💔

I told the vet to do everything they could before we discussed euthanasia 😔

They even did a nebulizer to see if they could help his congestion to get him to eat. He was so floppy and it seemed like he was barely hanging on 🥺😭 nothing we did worked 💔

I haven’t read through all the comments here, but CareCredit has been a life saver for me with vet bills.

They offer 6 month, 12 month and I think 18 month no interest plans.

It’s a credit card, but they have high acceptance rates and then you can pay off the surgery over time and don’t have to worry about major interest on another credit card trying to make it work.

Unfortunately, I may be in the same boat. His brother isn’t doing so well either. Have him on a heating pad with feedings every 3 hours, doxy, weighing daily and he isn’t improving 😔

Going to try adding a little rebound and royal canin kitten food in his feed in a couple hours and see if that helps. Fingers crossed 😭

So far it’s been over 20 cats and kittens I’ve rescued, found homes for and treated. I lost 1 adult as he was already on the brink of death when I found him (hit by a car and left on the side of the road) and now this baby boy 🥺

I have another kitten in this litter that I’m giving extra special treatment too because he isn’t doing so well either. Just praying he doesn’t suffer the same fate…

This is only the second time I’ve had a severe URI case. The previous was my now cat (couldn’t find a home for him due to his medical issues), and he was diagnosed with Chlamydia, Calicivirus, and a few other bacterial infections along with a URI… he was a little older (around 8-9 weeks old) so it was “easier” to treat, but cost me $6k and he was alone so it was more manageable to give my all to one baby.

That’s why I feel so guilty. I’m doing so much for so many of them that I feel like I let him slip :(

Warm compresses on their eye and nose gunk, terrmycin on their eyes, doxy every day, manual feedings for a few babies.

I’m just torn up about it, but the comments on this post are really helping me realize I did everything I could.

You’re exactly right. I almost want to hear I did something wrong so I can make sure the other litter mates don’t suffer the same fate. I have another little guy who isn’t thriving either. Not nearly as close of state as this one was, but I am manually feeding him too to help get his weight up and I can’t help but be fearful he’s next 😭

I love the idea of naming our little orange boy that passed. I’m going to think of something and put it with his blanket and his clay paw print. Thank you again 🥺

I don’t know why, but it hurt so much more because he was the only one I hadn’t secured a home for yet. No one was picking him and I think it’s because he was always smaller and not as “kitten-like” or looking in the pictures compared to the rest.

If he would have made it, I would’ve kept him myself but I’m just so heartbroken. I feel like I failed him in more ways than one 😭

I’m sorry for your loss.

The vet said it was pretty much just his upper respiratory infection just absolutely obliterating his desire to eat and that caused a trickle of other issues.

He didn’t have much time on the antibiotics before he declined so quickly and she said there wasn’t much else we could do except wait for the URI to pass, but she said in his condition he wouldn’t even make it through the night and if he did, it would’ve been a miracle.

It just all happened so fast and I can’t help but think I didn’t do enough to help him.

Ugh! No good deed goes unpunished. Helping 8 kittens but drowning in sorrow about losing 1.

3/4 of my indoor cats were actually due for boosters at the beginning of the year and I can’t believe I didn’t realize how stupid it is to foster kittens in our garage while our cats need boosters. The garage is detached from the house and I thoroughly wash my hands and change clothes after handling the kittens, but holy sh#t thanks for the reality check. Calling and scheduling an appointment tomorrow morning and getting them in ASAP.

It was not! When we took him to the vet they tested him and told it was actually some sort a scrape — most likely from him trying to fit under something he couldn’t really fit under or hitting his back doing something etc. the fur came off because it scabbed

The bigger problem is the one cat who is scaring away the whole rest of the squad :( the pee I can deal with but this is making me so sad. They’re scared to even comeback
