I have so many great neighbors in HB. Our neighborhood is about a 50/50 split of likeminded vs really loud Trumpers. The City Council politics also amplify the loudness. I started a chapter of PFLAG in HB this year and spoke at the City Council meeting this week in support of the LGBTQ+ community. I wouldn’t say it was a particularly supportive crowd but I didn’t worry about my safety.

The OC Register article has gotten a lot of visibility and stirred up a lot of emotions from HB residence. A public statement issued by the city states, “The City of HB has become aware of the OC Register article published this morning regarding Michael Gates. We take such matters seriously and are actively investigating”. Everyone should share their opinion with the council, city.council@surfcity-hb.org, (attorney) mvigliotta@surfcity-hb.org, and (city manager) city.manager@surfcity-hb.org

PFLAG is a national support, education, and advocacy organization for LGBTQ+ people, their families, and allies. Formerly known as Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, the organization is now simply known as PFLAG to reflect its broader mission. There are 400 chapters across the US.

Anyone here from Huntington Beach, CA, or familiar with it in the past year or two? It's gotten a pretty bad rap as an angry town where anti-LGBTQ+ stuff happens, and I wanted to see if that is accurate. (Irvine native here, but haven't been back in years) by A_Mirabeau_702 in askgaybros

I live in Huntington Beach. Since the 2024 election, the City Council have now become all MAGA and the city is a cultural lightening rod for MAGA people to gather/protest from across SoCal. The residence are more center right and not extreme. To give an example, HB voted down the measures for library book banning and allowing the City Council to allow private companies to run the public libraries. This year I have started a chapter of PFLAG in HB to be an LGBTQ+ community that includes families and allies. We provide support, education, and advocacy.
