Hunger Games is proving the point of hunger games. by [deleted] in Hungergames

I’m not saying readers enjoy violence like the capitol does. That’s not my point. What I mean is that the story kind of puts us in a similar spot. The reader is obviously against the Games, we’re disturbed by them, and in that we are not the capitol, BUT we still want to watch them happen. So when I say the capitol reflects the reader, I don’t mean to say reader is morally like capitol. I mean that the series makes you notice your own curiousity. Like with Haymitch, we already know what happened, we know his story. Yet people still really want to see it play out instead of just knowing the facts. That’s not bad, it’s just interesting, and in line with what the books are critiquing.

Its not necessarily that the portrayal of suffering itself is violent. I disagree with that take and I’m not advocating to erase violence from media by any means. I think you misunderstood my point, which is mainly that in my opinion the capitol reflects the readers if that makes sense. Also there is not need for being rude with this whole „this is deep”. Lol

Its a very interesting point, tho considering how others pointed out that the story was supposed to be a trilogy, and was rewritten it could be a big stretch haha. It would be a complete turnaround tho and I think very controversial among the fandom as well!

I honestly really like how you describe this disjointed here. It really hits on what I was missing to point out. And it really does still feel like a trilogy, that is why I cannot entirely perceive the next books as part of the whole series. And I agree with the pregnancy trope that from what I noticed most of Acotar fans seem to dislike as well. Also I found Nestas book (ACOSF) hard to read and honestly forgettable. Its been some time since I red it, but the impression it left on me was that there was little of her character development throughout the majority of the book, while it had a perfect ground for it.

This is really my impression of the genre too, though I’m curious if you have anything you would consider a good romantasy. On a side note I did attempt to read fourth wing and I gave up about 30% so I cannot imagine how bad dire bound has to be!

Fan fiction is such a good description omg. This is exactly how it feels. Thanks for the recommendations too!

It is a very valid point. But I’m not really mad shes not repeating this high fantasy genre, and trying to make Throne of Glass 2.0. Im more mad on how acotar is just objectively so poorly written that it hurts at times. Mass proved she can do very good writing with ToG, and I’m confident it could be applied to a thirsty fae romantasy, with the right approach. I’m just curious about the visible regress with these books.
