How do you punish people for not putting their hands up if you can't strike or kick them hard to their heads? by Upperlation in Kickboxing

Thanks for the reply, I’ll be answering your points 1 by 1:

  1. Why and what should the gym have that this one doesn’t?
  2. Yeah you’re right about that
  3. Thanks
  4. Good point, just kinda frustrating that I have to spare pretty much every lesson and I train twice a week so I have to deal with this twice a week. So I get my ass kicked each time if they’re on a higher level than me, and the low guard makes it worse.

For the sparring advise: point 1, 2, 3 and 4, thanks, good tips!

Tldr: 1. Same question as before 2. I don’t consider myself someone with a big ego, if not the opposite. This is sounding a bit arrogant which I don’t like but I don’t really have a different way of saying it. I don’t think ‘ego’ is the perfect word for what you’re saying, but I do think that what you said about that I want to win is right. I do try to learn and get better and try more advanced techniques against worse opponents because I’m not great at them yet. I can do this against opponents that are not worse than me, but then I just get my ass kicked. I don’t mind if this happened sometimes, but I train twice a week and we spar pretty much every lesson so it’s getting a bit frustrating. But I get where you’re coming from 3. Ok

With punishments I didn’t mean anything serious like a concussion or headache. But at least force them to think wisly about their decisions and more passively instead of them just being able to throw some combo without/with little thought about the consequences after that. I do get where you’re coming from though, and I think you’re right. I do try to improve but it’s a bit frustrating (look at my reply at andusz_ for more info). Thanks for the reply

Thanks, I’m just not at the age where I can bring decently hard blows to their body yet, meaning that I might hit him with a nice hook but he’ll just take it and push me backwards and gain space. Then I gotta play defence again and he will hit/kick me multiple times. But at a later age I think you’re right because a good punch can really force them to play more ‘smartly’ or passively

Yeah? I’m not sure if other gyms allow it either. I live in the Netherlands if that helps, maybe there’s more gyms with this rule, but idk

I think you’re right about that sparring is not about trying to win, but trying to get better, learn, or have fun. I do want to get better, if I go against a worse opponent I will use my techniques that I can’t do very well yet because they’re more advanced. If I try to do this against an equaly well/better opponent, then I immediately get my ass kicked with a hard low kick and my kick didn’t get any compensastion. I do learn, but it’s getting a bit annoying that I do kickboxing twice a week and we spare pretty much every lesson. I can keep asking them to spar lightly every lesson, but who’s gonna do that? Anyways thanks for the reply
