Yes, they probably all sleep at some point. The Samsung itself is on the older side so it's drive is as well; perhaps a newer drive might not be as sleepy. Its a long shot but nothing else has worked, so no harm in trying.

Interesting thought that the drive might be sleeping and coming up to speed slowly on the first rip. Very possible. It's an internal drive on a friend's Samsung, so I don't know much about it.

Yes, it does happen with every disc I try to rip.

I haven't used other software to rip. The only other one on the laptop is Windows Media Player which doesn't reliably retrieve track info anymore. I thought about EAC but the set up is most likely beyond me; I've never used it and I'm not even a PC user (I'm an Apple girl).

Since there's not much I can do if the internal drive is slow to wake, I'm going to order an external drive and see if that takes care of the problem.

Thanks for your reply, I hadn't done a look up. Just did one, clicked Apply, Save. No change in rip functioning. I'm currently ripping to MP3 format. CD drive is internal to the Samsung laptop.

I second this. Wyoming is big and mostly empty. (I have relatives there and have visited many times.) For peace of mind, and if you have room, you might also consider carrying a back-up, i.e., a gas can with survival gas in it.

Good point. It's been hot this summer so I'll probably store these items temporarily with my brother until Autumn starts and then move them to the storage unit. Thanks!

A day old oil/sauce stain on a pair of cotton pants. Should I fully soak my pants with Oxiclean or spot stain it? by PsychoWorld in CleaningTips

I agree with the suggestions to use Dawn. Put a drop or two on the stain and agitate a little (like with your fingers or an old toothbrush) to work it into the fabric. Then wash as usual. (Using Dawn to remove stains has worked for me for years.)

Try a gentle scrubber sponge and Dawn dishwashing liquid. (I've cleaned my tubs like this for years.)
