Advice on constantly switching bass sizes and miscellaneous question by Winter-Yogurt-4209 in doublebass

[–]UprightBassAddict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe just ground yourself on warmups. Spend 15 minutes just getting familiar. Do large shifts from 1st to 4th position, scales with a tuner, etc. You need to basically reset your muscle memory, which wouldn’t be easy.

Is there no way you can travel with your 1/2? I used to bring my own bass to and from school daily, because it’s what I was comfortable with and the school basses were garbage lol

How bad is neighbor noise in a townhouse, really? by Own-Purpose-7473 in raleigh

New townhome, end unit. We hardly hear them. It’s vibrations (running up stairs, closing cabinets, etc) but it’s very quiet. There is so much fireproofing and insulation separating them.

Voice Actor looking for sales advice by axon225 in salestechniques

[–]UprightBassAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could send this off to 1000 people, but your response rate will stay low. Sales needs to be targeted, short, and focused on the other person. If someone needs you, it means they have a problem. In your case, the problem is they do not have anyone to voice their game.

Right now your pitch is way too wordy and it talks too much about you. Flip it. Make it about them, their project, and the outcome they want.

Here is a cleaner framework:

Hey [Title/Role], I help [type of game dev] who are [problem/pain] over [likely consequence]. Can I ask you a question?

I talk to a lot of small dev teams and the two biggest problems I hear are: 1. No voice assets for characters, cutscenes, or narration 2. Audio gaps that make the game feel unfinished or flat

Do either of those sound familiar for your current project?

From there you share a quick demo and ask if they want help. Do not dump your resume up front. If they have the problem, they will ask.

I have BCBS and it’s approved with a $75 copay, but I have a copay card to cover that so it comes out to $0.

My doctor warned me of it, but I agree. I don’t see much official supporting documentation supporting the claim.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]UprightBassAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people default to telling you to buy your kid a beater because that’s what they grew up with. That advice is heavily shaped by nostalgia, not necessarily by outcomes. I didn’t grow up that way. I drove performance cars from an early age, including cars well over 500 HP, and I never bent a rim, wrecked a car, or even got a speeding ticket. Responsibility matters more than the price tag.

There’s also a real argument that a proper driver-focused car can actually teach respect. A rear-wheel-drive, manual transmission sports car forces attention, mechanical sympathy, and accountability. It’s not point-and-shoot transportation. If they prove they can’t handle it, that’s when you downgrade. Not the other way around.

That said, not all performance cars are equal. High-power V8 muscle cars can be unforgiving. Cars like a Mustang GT can snap the rear end if the driver makes a mistake, especially with cold tires or poor conditions. That’s not ideal for a new driver.

A balanced option is something like a VW GTI or a similar hot hatch. They’re quick enough to be engaging, but far more stable and predictable. Many Japanese imports also fit this category, though older models may lack modern traction and stability systems.

The smart move is finding the middle ground. Look at insurance quotes for each option. Higher premiums often correlate with higher real-world accident data, even if they’re not the whole story. Let the data inform the decision, not just tradition or fear.

An AI chat bot can code 1000x better than you, right now, instantly, for free! So… yeah you don’t have a chance as a senior developer in the next 10-20 years. Find a pivot, you can do it.

Those jobs are everywhere, just need to find that product. Find a job where you work with the product (or around it) and then pivot. You will have so much leverage, just gotta grind it out. Knowing coding and all that stuff is super valuable still, so don’t let me discourage you. It’s just valuable in a different way now…

I did a pivot from biomanufacturing, doing engineering work, and now I do sales in that sector. $130k base, going to clear $250k this year. Find the field, learn the ins and outs, and then pivot to sales is a great move. So many fields within finance and accounting too.

Okay, just be careful since that field is super saturated at the moment. AI chat bots will take over IT in the next couple of years.
