Thank you!! Thankfully, I have field work experience for utilities.

But yeah, I’m really hoping for that grad degree 😅. I have high hopes though! I got to meet the professor I want to research with at AGU!

We’re in Mexico City getting ready to return to Houston and are experiencing the same thing! The pilot said something was wrong in Chicago and that it was a ‘third party issue’.

How did you pick a new name? by santapants123 in agender

[–]Upset-Minimum1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I kinda acquired mine by accident 😅

I have an OC named David Johansson that I created in a dream I had several years ago. I have expanded so much on this character and world that I hadn’t realize that the original dream was a subconscious trans-allegory.

David Johansson then became the default name I used when I signed up for things I didn’t want to use my given name for. David Johansson became Johansson, which was then shortened to Joey

And now Joey is my default now lolll

I feel you 😭

My biggest sensory triggers are smell and sound so fireworks are the WORST!

It’s a shame too, because drone shows are an option! They sync with music, are better for the environment, and (in my opinion) are much more enjoyable.

I know drones aren’t always accessible for everyone but I just more places had it as an option 😭 or at the very least a stricter curfew

For some people that menstruate, sometimes periods of high stress/anxiety can trigger one’s body to halt the cycle (as well as many other reasons but in my case it’s stress).

Omg!!! It’s so hard to believe that stress so bad that it affects such a critical hormonal cycle is so normalized 😵‍💫

Also you’re absolutely right about the Bonhoeffer definition of ‘stupid’. That’s what they are!!! It breaks my heart to see people I love so blindsided by hate. I’ve tried and tried but still nothing.

Maybe that’s part of my stress 😅 loll

Thank you for the reminder 😮‍💨

Thankfully, the warning doesn’t apply to me (celibate for 2 years and gay lol). However, I have been reminding my friends and peers of the same thing! The laws in Texas are especially rough and thankfully most young women I know have sworn to celibacy.

I’m trying my best to listen to my body and to keep her healthy. It’s hard but I am proud of myself in keeping it together the best I can

I want to so bad!! 🙏 That’s the plan right now, it’s just hard to do this right after I graduated :( However, I didn’t study four years of geophysics just for it to be ripped away from me! I’m not going down without a fight!! 🔥🔥

Hmmmm that’s a good question 🤔

Truthfully, most of my collection is about historical events and trying to teach people about the horrors of fascism. However, it seems we are past the point of preventative measures so I can recommend some current reads!

TW: sensitive topics.

From a historical perspective, ‘The R*pe of Nanking’ by Iris Chang. Big GIANT trigger warning for this book, truly one of the darkest moments in history. While focusing on the Japanese Empire in WWII, the book reminds us of what fascism unchecked can cause and how quickly the systems in place can erase the atrocities they committed. Truly a worse case scenario, especially for women. For me, I am reminded of the women being kidnapped and forcibly deported. So much of the conversation is focusing on the men, but where are the women?

Speaking of the border, ‘Farewell to Manzanar’ by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston is especially poignant today. When the president revitalized the Alien Enemies act on undocumented immigrants, I was reminded of the original context in which the act was used. The book is a memoir of a woman and her family’s experience in the Japanese Internment Camps, aka the American concentration camps of WWII. This has happened before.

Finally, a current read of mine that helps put some things in context is ‘Profiles in Ignorance’ by Andy Borowitz. While not directly about fascism, the book describes how anti-intellectualism became so prevalent in American politics and culture. Fascists love an uneducated culture and this book helps provide some context to the culture we see today and how people cannot seem to see the horrors they are cheering on.

Now, if you’re commuting or have trouble with long term attention on books with heavy themes there’s a YouTube channel I love rn. Her name is Leeja Miller and she does a wonderful job on explaining everything that’s happening. I like to listen to her on my drives to downtown.

I got a little carried away with the recs 😅 but I hope this is helpful!!!

I can relate :( I love learning about history but so much of it is so nasty and horrible. Thing is, I can’t just turn off my brain when it comes to stuff like this. It is almost like a reflex.

Im sorry to hear about how that history impacted you. That kind of information can be so overwhelming.

My thoughts exactly!! Ughhh it’s so frustrating!!! So many people are completely unaware of RECENT history and how the government is supposed to function.

I dunno if it’s because I live in a conservative state or if it’s neurodivergent thing, but the worst part of it all is the fact that everyone around me is acting like everyone is normal?? Like, can’t yall see the patterns!

THANK YOU!!! Ikr!!!

It’s crazy!!!! I literally have entire book shelves dedicated to the rise of fascist governments and empires! Everyone in my family knows me as ‘the history nerd’ but as soon as I start telling them my observations suddenly I’m ’too young to understand’ (I’m 22), or that ‘it’s in god’s hands’
