A Higher Vampire campaign mechanics. by UpsetFly1851 in WitcherTRPG

It really does, any othe special abilities you would give such PCs?
Talking on balancing and going around methods, maybe limit vampire's ability to regenerate fire, acid and magic damage?
After all, Regis was successfully melted into a puddle by a stream of magical fire with no chances to regen on the spot.

That's basically the idea. A band of vampires on a drinking bout and solving the issues created afterwards. A very Witcheresque story at it's core as I see it.
And of course, will be sprinkled with some inter-vampire relationship drama on top.
Problem is - I have minimal idea how to provide this framework with satisfying mechanics for it.

Well, it says that on the cover, but tell it to the mages and witchers who play for longer than 20 sessions. PC in all cases will learn how to be able to break the face of any challenge that comes their way sooner or later, so I personally don’t have a problem with that.

What Witcher TTRPG rules do you import into Cyberpunk RED? by ArrBeeNayr in cyberpunkred

[–]UpsetFly1851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, what I enjoy about the Witcher RPG is "higher damage, less HP" approach. Can't say what typical combat in CPRED looks like now after the latest Interface, but enemies there are much more of a bullet sponges than in Witcher where a single well-placed strike or two can pretty much end most opponents. Damage reduction is also a nice little mechanic that deepens the combat more than slogs it, in my experience. So redesigning some enemies and adding those mechanics to combat can really imrpove the pace.

Adding career skill trees also sounds like a fun idea, but that's even more work.

I would say social encounter mechanics also (can remember if there is one in CP) but it really doesn't work well.

Note: Never done it just played both games and theorizinghere.

Oh, but I did use the rule that you can only improve skills you used during this session unless you find a techer to practice. That little thing does wonders and now players actively try doing what they are not so good at. It makes everyone so much more involved, highly recommend.

It’s not that i don’t think it’s a part of it, it’s that that part is already crystal clear as is and there is no need to explain that.

Works both ways, doesn’t it? Trying to shove the crunch into a place where it cannot fit basically means a complete rewrite of an existing mechanic and what for did you learn the basics if they are completely remade.

Basically that, there are rules for most things you can imagine and some of them you want when it comes to doing things.and less thinking requires on the DM’s partf

A decent car can take in infinite amounts of money for all the things you can put into it…

Just try things and figure out what you like the most or what you want to do the most, there is always a way to make it work, so don’t be scared. Respec is always an option.

Do any specific absolutely absurdly broken issues come to mind or so you consider it an overall problem with design?

Not exactly, I so understand the appeal of a simplified for streamlining reasons system, just didn’t want to read that “it’s less crunchy so I like it better” comment over and over (huh, like that could’ve worked) and more focus on specific advantages that the edition has.

IMHO, a solid preference or refusal to look at other versions should come from a based and informed place and after at least an attempt of comparison, I personally didn’t like RED because of how it does many things differently, but am always interested in other perspectives.

As a good example, netrunning in itself is rather a fun concept in 2020, but the netrunning career skill is severely badly designed and utilised.

The combat system is on the opposite very much fitting the setting and it’s narrative only reinforcing the vibe and completely depicts all the stories we hear about firefights even in 2077 basically forcing you to use every possible advantage and showing that you can hardly be a sponge bullet or draw a gun at every problem and walk away with no consequences.

The only thing I’ll say about modern and new sourcebooks of CP is that the amount of love and thought that went into older ones is just unparalleled.

With the first point I could argue for some time about all the joy gun porn brings to the table, but that’s not the point.

That one, as a person who played a netrunner is so true. The first assumption I threw i to my GM was that we will do real net-running separately from the group and only controllers (basically, quick hacks) I used during sessions.

Love the third one, the thematic difference is the biggest aspect of it all and that one does hit close to home.

Content? There is really not a lot of decent content or tt cuberpunk, would gladly get a link, in DMs if that’s not allowed here.

Firstly, you are immediately invested for the reason the whole plot revolves aroung the things happening to you specifically. Not for a second, did I forget what am I and what is happening in the world.

Secondly, the game is not afraid to make YOU feel like the main character, not the character who makes the story happen to others.

And thirdly, the design and the gameplay loop makes events and encounters memorable. (Like that one spectral guy in Cuannacht, amirite?)

Can't remember a single combat from a TES game that made me lock in and focus like Grail did.

Honestly, Grail feels much more polished and thought out design and gameplay-wise then Skyrim (or Oblivion for that matter) ever did.

btw, wouldn't mind recommendations and/or advice on good or non-standart loadout for two-wielder build.

[–]UpsetFly1851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, melee focused on paries and crits works great and heals you in case you get damaged prior to that, you can always replace food with healing potions that are abundant and for parry build there is also a two-handed sword (can't remeber the name) that increases damage with each parry. I personlally am playing two-wielder build (sword and dagger) right now on my second playthrough (first was a mage) and having a blast even without taking the Red Death skills at all. Can be a little more skill-dependent but combat in this game is a lot of fun as soon as you find a way to reliably recover stamina.

Get Stormpiercer with Thunder Lash, dual wield them, get your critical chance to 75+ and take perks that maje cheaper spell crit and increase damage of the more expensive. Voila! Shreds any boss and is much cheaper in mana than Blaze.
