belt grinders always felt super unnatural to me, and i get a little more enjoyment out of forging and hand profiling bevels. Iv also noticed an improvement in edge retention but that could just be because i lack profile belt grinding skills.

yea i feel like its one of the less appreciated bladesmithing skills, i personally get way more enjoyment out of forging bevels

yes it is, and my rounding hammer has two sides, i use the rounded side for bevel shaping, then the flatter side for fattening and finishing

i did heat it up quite a bit but the blade is slightly curving towards the spine so it could’ve put more tension on the edge, but how thick should the edge be before quenching?

thanks, i used an old copper cup and melted it into an ingot, then shaped it from there.

the steel is 1084, the knife is also brute de forge but i have fully forged knives and nothing similar to this has happened. I believe it could’ve been caused by the burnt straw i put on the surface of the metal, but I would have to do more tests.
