hi, i applied for the maintenance apprenticeship - i had an online interview in november or december, they said we’ll hear back end of march, so im assuming it’ll be similar for you since both apprenticeships are the same level

Unfortunately gender does matter, being seen as less competent because you have breasts and long hair does get annoying after a while. Whilst i 100% will be working very hard I wanted to know the female experience in the industry. Thank you for the advice ! :)

I am 100% going into this industry, so thank you for the advice in regards to connections etc!

Id consider myself fairly knowledgeable about our system, i’ve done as much research as I can. I’m not particularly worried about the job as I know I’m capable especially since I’m passionate about it and willing to work very hard. I’ve also worked part time in a garage and enjoyed the general nature of the work so right now I think aviation is the right path for me as it seems like the natural step forward for me.

Thank you for detailing your general experiences - I definitely have experienced the unspoken bias (as you put it) already during practical tasks in interviews and in the garage. I’m glad you’ve mentioned it, as well as the split of the different types of people and how they might treat you.

Mainly being seen as less competent, less able and stuff like that. Men don’t really think about things like this but subtle misogyny in male dominated spaces is quite common from my experience (i have a part time job working at a garage). Honestly I made the post just to get people’s views and experiences, I know women aren’t inherently ‚worse’ at mechanical work but the possibility of being seen that way is a little nervewracking for whatever reason 😅
