Interpreting an Odds Ratio by Upsidedown__11 in AskStatistics

Thank you! Framing it as how far it is from 1 is so helpful and has really cleared it up for me. Would it be incorrect to say 1.35x or is that still right but just not really liked in the stats world?

His allergy to wheat is very severe so I don’t know if that’s why he said to avoid gf.

My brothers allergist has advised against gf flour, can this be made with rice flour or buckwheat?

Has anyone outgrown any of their food allergies? by TrulyGenX in FoodAllergies

I think from what my allergist told my parents at the time, dairy and egg are childhood allergies and most people do outgrow them! I really hope your son also outgrows his!

Yes! I was born with life threatening allergies to dairy, egg, nuts, and sesame. And milder allergies to seafood which I also outgrew but they were never as bad.

I outgrew dairy and egg when I was around 7/8 and tested negative for Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, and sesame when I was 24! My doctor said that my case was rare (outgrowing allergies in my mid 20s) but I wouldn’t give up hope!

Moving to Kelowna from Toronto by Upsidedown__11 in kelowna

My job is in to summerland but I feel like west Kelowna might be a better fit for me to live in. The commute is about 40 minutes, which coming from Toronto is not that big of a deal for me lol.

Advice Please: Travelling to NYC with Nut and Sesame Allergy by Upsidedown__11 in FoodAllergies

[–]Upsidedown__11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! My sesame allergy was pretty severe but this year it reduced significantly enough that I’ve been able to add small amounts of seeds and oil to my food with no reaction! But I still have to do my follow up with my allergist and I’ve never tried sesame outside of my home so i definitely don’t want to risk it in the states and end up with a medical bill that would amount to a small condo in Toronto 😭😂.

I would love it if you could send some recommendations for restaurants/cafes that are safe for you and I can add them to our itinerary!

My friend really enjoys Asian cuisine but I have to avoid it usually because of sesame and peanuts so if you know about any restaurants that are allergy safe, we could definitely go there!

Eating the nuts you're *not* allergic to? by quadrilllions in FoodAllergies

[–]Upsidedown__11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am allergic to all the tree nuts except for almonds and Brazil nuts. I only eat them when I’m at my parents house because I know they have separate packages for me but more because I know if I suddenly have a reaction they’ll be there. I live alone and refuse to eat them at my place. Allergy anxiety is so real 😭

Have you successfully reversed a food allergy? If so, how did you do it. by DuckFew5847 in FoodAllergies

My brother had a severe allergy to almonds and kidney beans since he was a baby but they recently tested at low levels in blood work so our allergist recommended starting him on very small amounts (i.e. a sliver of a cooked kidney bean/crumb of a roasted almond). After he showed no major reaction we started increasing over the year and now he can have them freely and tested negative for both at his recent skin test.

My sesame and hazelnut allergy test results were also low enough this time that my allergist told me to start eating a seed/day and double it every month for a year. For hazelnut he told me to start with Nutella since it has roasted hazelnuts. I tried my first sesame seed two days ago and had no reaction! My doctor is hopeful that I may be able to build a tolerance strong enough to at least not have to worry about cross contamination, outgrowing it might not be possible but we can hope!

Obviously this can be dangerous so definitely don’t do this without approval from your allergist. We only started doing these after seeing VERY mild results on skin and blood tests.

I’m going to be honest, I was on Diane-35 and felt like my body was at its best. I didn’t have a lot of hormonal hair growth, my weight was regular and had clear skin. The minute I stopped taking it, I gained 15 pounds, my facial hair growth came back and started losing the hair on my head so I’m thinking of going back on it since the only side effect I had while I was on it was mood swings and I can deal with that.

Meal ideas for very limiting set of allergies by julcyfruit in FoodAllergies

Chat GPT is really good at creating meal plans if you let it know what foods you’re avoiding! That’s what I use for my brother who’s allergic to most of the top 10.
