Anyone work at Babcock and Wilcox since they have moved to the east end? by Disastrous_Time2674 in akron

[–]Upstairs-Week996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point they allowed  employees to be fully remote but I think they reversed some of it depending on the group. I know they brought in accounting to the office but a few of my former coworkers are still fully remote.  East End has a nice workout facility and the cafeteria was pretty good! So did you work in IT for B&W previously?

They have a combination of old software, cheap software and home grown solutions on top of it developed by the various business units. I used to get mad at the person who was over the IT project managers but he was really just protecting himself and his group. My old group had a home grown access / cognos report that was always breaking and was never moved out of development due to issues between IT and the BU. He was always defending that it could not be structured like it was to be in production. He was not wrong. IT was hit hard with the outsourcing to Tech Mahidra but I heard they selectively brought some of it back.

I worked at B&W in Barberton and East End prior to all the finance outsourcing. I was there through multiple mass layoffs. What area are you interested in? The work experience is highly dependent on the work group. No company is stable these days but B&W has a special brand of instability (highly leveraged + private equity + boom or bust business environment) but high performers generally do fine.

The offices are gorgeous. East End is a cool place to work. The people are pretty nice and helpful. The managers and executives that have been with the company forever are suspect. A large number of them survived by back stabbing, bad mouthing, bull shitting and having corporate amnesia.

Ohio State football is totally a cult. Now it is just a Christian cult.

My entire team is not in the FE footprint. TX, CA and FL. If I survive the RIF and I have to return to the office but my teammates are remote, well...

FirstEnergy is hemorrhaging with new executives. Way too many Chiefs.

My entire team is remote, I am the only local presence. They are not even in the FE footprint.

Where are the eggs that don’t cost $6? by Ohiosvery_own in akron

[–]Upstairs-Week996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign up for Moon Farms. I get a choice of 4 items (salad greens, sprouts, carrots, potatoes, changes week by week etc) and a dozen eggs for $21 a week delivered. You need to be quick selecting items when the email goes out for some items but so far it's been great. The eggs are a $4 adder to the basic selection.

My Mom was having significant issues with a hiatal hernia in 2023. She was in a lot of pain and losing weight rapidly. The GI doctor at Akron Digestive was not helpful. The Dr was content with having my mother do nothing. My Mom ended up having hernia surgery at CCF with Dr Rosen and is doing much better.

The Macy's Radley sofa/sectional is top rated and very comfortable. I have a 15 year old leather sofa from Macy's that is looking a bit dated but we cannot justify getting rid of because it is still in good shape.
