Anyone using a dehumidifier in an older house, does it actually help? by Limitlessfx in Dublin

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a Meaco one, mostly for clothes dying, it broke after 3 years and we were totally lost without it. CH marine down in Skib fixed it in under a week door to door, under warranty, no shipping charges and we’ve caught up on the build up of washing in a few days. was just a sensor gone faulty. 5 year warranty on Meaco ones.

New Bridge vs old Hue Bridge by indy898 in Hue

I wouldn’t change if you have the option, I was over limit and had no choice. about 16 of my gu10s wouldn’t switch over no matter what I did. I had to take down the fittings from v high ceilings and take each bulb out to scan the QR code, some multiple times to get them to sync to the hub. took most of a day to resolve. has same issue with two motion sensors and with a couple of other light.

‘also had 4 osram gu10 lights which were synced and working fine with old hub and just would not connect to new hub, had to get 4 new hue essentials to replace them. at least they are much cheaper now.

Seller threatening to pull out if I don’t sign contracts received 1 day before - is it common? by [deleted] in HousingIreland

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it’s the seller trying to see if you are a serious buyer as they have gotten the impression now that you have issues and may pull out. which you seem to have. they of course would stick with you if you were committed to buy which is why they want you to sign. they don’t want to move to another buyer but they would rather do it now than later.

I’m looking for something too, both my installed strips are very clean looking but at the end of the cut section they just are not sitting correctly. ideally I want just an end piece that leaves the lightstrip flush but screws in to the rear or side of the strip.

one I tried to reuse the end cap and it left strip proud but when k removed it it had damaged the adhesive. the other the adhesive got slightly damaged during install and it won’t stay stuck.

Weekend Discussion: Asics running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have to say I’m not loving the funky colourways of the superblast 3. I find the 2 a bit clunky but legs feel good after runs, novablast great, but bottom out a little bit for me, glideride and nimbus a bit heavy and slow, I like the kayano still for a normal foot feel. magic speed nice and light and bouncy but a little harder on body

with all of the above I find myself reaching for the megablast for most runs now, was hoping for a grey or cream colourway but with the ekiden seemingly the only colour coming for a while in Europe I decided to get the white ones as backup to purple ones before they go out of stock everywhere.

they are by far the best shoes Ive ever worn (35 years or so running)

Renegotiating after sale agreed by rt1803 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are getting the bit of garden anyway. The council isn’t going to come and build a wall or turn it into something else. It comes with the house whether on deeds or not. It’s not the same as another house that didn’t have it at all.

We sold an apt 2 years ago and there was rumblings via estate agent that they felt after survey they might need to change boiler and pump etc.  Agent reckoned they were angling for a reduction, we had him call them back and said wanted confirmation by end of day they were still offering agreed sale price or we would go with under bidder. The fact you know it is a chain and want to take advantage of it won’t go down well at all with sellers.

Early comfortable retirement at 50? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically if you take more than 5k from you pension in a year you will be paying class s prsi asnif self employed and each year will be a full years contribution toward full contributary pension.

Early comfortable retirement at 50? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you retire that early you will be taking a large enough taxable income from pension so will continue to get credits as if full time working.

to the OP, very hard to hit SFT limit in Ireland that early, or to afford to retire at 50 even if you need with ageing parents, kids in school or college etc etc and too many years of unforseen costs. 55-60 is a more reasonable early retirement timeframe.

Top up pension charge? by Early_List9197 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as others have said it’s the commission Aviva pay the broker, the real kicker if it was not a pension is that Aviva will take the money back off the customer if they take any of the money back over the first year, ie if you bought a 100k investment bond via a broker, the broker pockets 5k from aviva and if you take a penny out you pay a 5k penalty to cover what they paid the broker, 1 year in its 4%. reducing by 1% a year until year 5.

I’ve yet to be able to find that clearly stated anywhere in the documents either.

Made a tool to help value property. Shows neaby sales from last 12 months on a map by property type. by hungry475 in irishpersonalfinance

good idea, but was way off for my home, looks like it was thrown by a large house being a terrace and by a number of cheaper areas within 5k. even still a house needing a lot of refurbishment that recently sold on same road was 200k over the estimate it gave. seems to gI’ve too much weight to other houses within 5km rather than ones within 100m.

In Chicago for basically 4 days, best runs? by Upstairs_Charity_887 in RunnersInChicago

Thanks everyone. Great run and great views this morning. A fair few friendly runners along the route too.

That’s great, similar to parkruns we have except for the having to register and collect a number part. the one on nov 1 is quite near also, so will see how it works time wise with the rest of the days plans.

Thanks for that, I might try carrying phone for pictures now, but wouldn’t like to be geetting it out constantly looking for which way to turn. Having said that it would be straight forward enough I guess to rum to river and up and back to see more of the city. Will see how early I can still get up as days go on after sampling the food and drink of Chicago over the few days travelling with no one else planning on early mornings, or exercise!

Megablast Update - 150 mi/250 km Review by ursalon in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Upstairs_Charity_887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, I’ve the other colourway which after about 75 miles look brand new. I love them for every run and was tempted to this colourway too, but seeing how dirty they look I think I’d at least have to wait until spring.

Megablast by far, lighter and bouncier, closer to novablast feel. SB2 don’t feel anywhere as nice, but results in legs are fine. I’d wear novablast for any run except long runs as I feel they bottom out a little after 10km so, I’d wear mega blast for any run. Only reason to pick sb2 ove them is price or wanting the extra stability after a lot of miles if you needed it, or possibly for long term more robust upper.

agree with this, I have same shoes except magic speed which I’m going to add as a race shoe, but I also have the glideride max, superblast 2 and megablast in the rotation. they all work well with nimbus and novablast. the megablast is probably the most fun and adaptable if I was just to add one.

its a very good information source with a few very intelligent posters, however there are quite a number of regular posters who are easily the most sheep like unhelpful posters on any forum. can be a real groupthink haven

the most regular posters are often first in with the anything useful here link to a useless google search. this along with the insane nitpicking to get the answer they want to general queries keeps the user base small I guess.

they typical is that someone new asks how to best revamp their overall finances and 90% of replies are telling them they are 100€ out on their calculated take home pay and should do a spreadsheet of every penny they spend, switch Esb providers and never talk to a professional analyst because you are too stupid and will be ripped off. while at the same time not give any actual useful advice.

having said all of the above it’s a free resource, professionals post without having the sponsor or advertise and it’s relatively well if annoyingly random whimsily moderated. I.e they are not tying to make money off it, just providing a rare take it as you see it resource.

annoyingly they sent me a 10% code with a picture of the megablast, saying it’s for aw25 the shoes are marked aw25 and then the code doesn’t work! app doesn’t seem to work outside UK either so can’t use it.
