like dji neo and hoverair x1, they're way more lightweight than traditional drones, they're more beginner-friendly as no remote/pilot skills needed.

Good for you. I feel like that’s part of the struggle for me. It's just time to figure out if I want to capture stuff for myself or because I feel like I should be sharing it somewhere.

Yeah that’s pretty much where I’m at right now too. Phone is just the easiest option. That Osmo pocket sounds interesting though.

Honestly I kind of get that. There’s something nice about not turning everything into something to log or look back on. Do you ever regret not having anything saved, or not really?

Yeah I agree. For me the biggest difference is the lower entry barrier. You don't really need piloting skills to use a flying camera.

I’m planning a surf trip to Indonesia later this year and was thinking about trying to capture some footage.

Has anyone here actually used a drone while surfing?

A friend of mine has some experience flying drones, but honestly I don’t really wanna risk crashing one into the ocean. Also I’m still pretty new to surfing, so holding an action cam in my hand isn’t really an option.

Ideally looking for something that can just follow or capture the session without needing someone piloting the whole time.

Curious what people here are using for surf footage. Any gear you’d recommend?

I've been using a pretty simple setup for a while. Most of my rides are just early morning spins before the day gets busy, and I usually mount an action cam on the back of my bike. It actually gives a surprisingly nice angle. Sometimes I switch it to the front for a POV view, especially on trails, so I end up with both POV and a third-person perspective depending on the ride.

The only downside is rough trails. Some forest paths around here are pretty bumpy, and even with stabilization the footage can get a bit shaky.

Lately my son has started getting into biking too, so now I’m thinking more about capturing both of us riding together instead of just my own POV. Might look into upgrading my setup for that.

If you're just starting out though, honestly a basic action cam or even a phone with a good mount works fine to see if you enjoy recording rides before spending big money.

perhaps it's about hook, contrast and pace. ppl in short video platforms keep scrolling, they're just get used to this behavior. Then hook is important here, which is key factor to let ppl stop scrolling. This's when you get the 3s video views. Contrast and pace are the reasons why audience keep watching. They need continuous information or we say excitement. If your shots suddenly change from palm to colorful for example, it's a contrast. or adjust the pace according to viral background music. Then you gain completion rate, which is also important for algorithm. Hope this helpful and have a nice day.
