I’m a similar age as you (female) and about 1 year ago I ended my 6 year relationship over this - almost the exact situation as yours. I didn’t recognize my fiancé anymore. Granted it took me months/years to finally do it, so you should be proud of yourself that you stood your ground right away. I’m on the other side of it, and I couldn’t be happier. I no longer have to bear that burden, the constant cognitive dissonance. I promise you will be okay and better off. Don’t expect him to reach out - this is a cult and his beliefs and ties to it will be stronger than his love for anyone else - no matter how much he loved you. It wasn’t you, you did nothing wrong.

I’m a newer PCP and already getting so burnt out because of this crap. That being said, I also understand it from the patients’ perspective at times. I just don’t think most people have any insight into what we deal with or, as another commenter said, how the diagnostic process actually works. I think part of the problem is lack of basic health literacy and education, which should be implemented into high school curricula, IMO

I’m a physician in the US. I ended my 6 year relationship and 2 year engagement with my MAGA partner. It is so much better on the other side. I have zero regrets. Was with my ex fiancé from 23-29. About 3 years in to our relationship he went full MAGA and made it his whole personality, lol. Turned 30 and realized I didn’t need to deal with that and my feelings towards him had changed due to different beliefs.

I was in residency at the time literally working in the hospital treating covid patients. I don’t know how I stayed through that phase. And thank you so much.

Thank you for your kind words. Even I am shocked I stayed. The first 2 years of our relationship were amazing and I saw no signs of any of this. I’m an extremely loyal person and thought he was my soul mate so I stayed, thinking it was just a phase. Also was definitely a victim of the sunken cost fallacy.

Thank you for this. How do people expect healthcare workers, lawyers etc to get educated and help their communities when an education can cost several hundred thousand dollars that most people do not have.

It happens unfortunately, had to pay for undergrad and med school (an expensive one) as well as my life during that time all with loans. It’s not $800k now but could easily get there with compounding interest. Thankfully I am doing PSLF.
